okay song by song synopsis:

up & go: catchy, quick, good lyrics. i like that with their songs you can tell exactly what's going on. it's quite clear that the girl had no time for him. best lyric: 'just let me dedicate a song to a girl who turned this boy to stone.'

given the chance: i love it when bands write appreciation songs like this. and tsl tend to do things better than most bands in their genre. it's happy and upbeat, which is good as most lyrics on this album are quite sad. best lyric: 'thanks for everything. you know how much this means.'

leaving: not as enjoyable as on the ep, but still rather good. nice and catchy, i have often found myself with this stuck in my head after listening to all 13 tracks. best lyric: 'let's travel back in time.'

the best of me: kick ass song! this is a great song, an excellent choice for a single. it's pretty and it's one of the few happy songs on this album and it's just nice to listen to. best lyric: 'we turn our music down, and we whisper, 'say what you're thinking right now.'

a goodnight's sleep: heartbreak in a bottle, i'm not kidding. you just want to hug them and make them feel better after this song. it's so sad. best lyric: 'sleep in your own bed tonight. i hope for your sake you don't wake up as broken as i am.'

almost there, going nowhere: i've noticed that tsl tend to alternate with happy song, sad song. track 5 was sad, so this is happy sounding. it's not happy really, but the riffs are up and so is the tempo and it makes you happy even though it's not. best lyric: 'just wait one minute more, because my heart is halfway torn and you're already gone.'

cheek to cheek: sad song, as i say. it's good though. but not quite as specific as the other ones. best lyric, 'i feel like nothing, again. pretending not to care. but i care!'

hello houston: again, upbeat and perky but not in an annoying way. i like the switching of narrators. one minute it's ken vasoli, the next it's the girl he's singing about. best lyric: 'sweet thing, i hope that you know i'm wondering where you are.'

decisions, decisions: this song is very sad, and if you're not sad before you hear it, it'll break you down. it's very personal, very emotional, a very heartfelt song and well sung again. best lyric: 'the last time i saw you, you were standing by his side. the last time you saw me was in a crumpled photograph that missed the bin.'

saddest girl story: good song, though a bit slower and more polished than the one on with hopes of starting over. i like the solo better though, because you can hear excatly what each person is doing, especially the bass. best lyric: 'heart torn out, down for the count and still come back for more.'

left coast envy: being from ca and not there now myself, this song just makes me cry every time. i don't know if it's real or if it's just filler, but it's beautiful either way. best lyric: 'i'm taking pictures of everything, so go ahead and take this place away from me.'

the drama summer: my least favorite on the album. while it is good, it's a little lacking in ooomph. it's acoustic so you can't expect the lovely weird arching riffs you got before. best lyric: 'cross your fingers, and pray for winter. i'll be there, painting the town your favorite color.'

this ride: good album closer, one of two songs not about a girl. it's kinda confusing cause you can't really tell what's going on, but you like it anyway. best lyric: 'it says hold on and take this ride and set aside memories of all the times when you collide. then you'll leave me here to die. here's the things i meant, but i never said.'
