Free Music Notes for Cannibal AlbumFree Music Review: It's official: Static-X will never match "Wisconsin Death Trip" Hit: 2 StarsDon't tell me they're "evolving;" "Cannibal" is a boring, uninspired album, any way you slice it, and it's easily the band's worst album ever. While "Start a War" was almost a return to form for the band ("Shadow Zone" was decent, but "Start a War" gave us hope that something in the same league as "Wisconsin Death Trip" was on the horizon), they have taken a huge leap backward toward "Machine," and it just doesn't work. Frankly, "Cannibal" is quite generic...there's nothing here we're going to remember or want to listen to more than two or three times (at absolute most), and it honestly sounds like they forced the album out in a week (much like "Machine"). Nearly every track on the album is in precisely the same key and uses the same combination (or lack thereof) of two or three power chords, and it really shows the lack of effort that went into the writing process. Throw in some terrible guitar solos and bland techno beats, and you've got one sorry collection of "songs." With a release as sad as this, I'd be surprised if Warner Bros. keeps them around much longer. Yet another disappointing album from a one-trick pony that once had all the promise in the metal world.
