Free Music Review: Listen to me Over and Over

When I first stumbled across a 30-second sample of "Hours Seem Like Days" in the iTunes store I was completely blown away, and I purchased the whole album right away.
5 bucks VERY well spent.
This 5-song EP was my introduction to Statistics and I couldn't have been more impressed. There are so many ups and downs and a wide variety of sounds, you can't help but wonder how one man managed to cover such a wide scope of music in such a short timespan. Each song has it's own unique sound and is more refreshing than the last. As the EP goes on you can't help but bob your head or your knees in sync with the beat.
The intro to 'Another Day' leaves you wondering if this whole album is gonna be 5 songs of exquisite electronic and drum bliss, but soon the song fades out and in comes '(A Memory)' a song that continues the electronic theme but also employs a pretty guitar strum and some strategically placed bass [this is probably my least favorite track on the album, and it isn't even a bad song.. just goes on a Bit too long].
Then 'Memory' fades out and the next track, 'Hours Seemed Like Days', introduces itself with an awesome guitar riff that catches the listener completely by suprise. Some funky electronic lyrics take over, and then in comes Denver Dalley with his contribution of lovely and short lyrics. As this song fades out you can't help but wonder how the album could get any cooler. In comes '(A Flashback)', a song that quickly builds up from a soft guitar strum into a keyboard-driven track with an extrmely haunting and dreamy tone.
The dreamy atmosphere carries on into the next track, 'Cure Me', which almost sounds like someone is beating some trashcans together [in a good way] while Denver plays a catchy melody on the guitar, plays the keyboard, and sings softly in a dark voice seemingly all at the same time. Slowly the melody winds down and the album's done.
Indeed, this album is very short, after all it is an EP, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It makes it highly listenable, demanding multiple spins in your stereo as well as demonstrating just what this band can do with just 15 minutes of album time.
I give it 4 stars just because I feel some parts were slightly repetitive and also a few songs seemed like they ended too quickly, but besides that this album is definitely worthy of a listen... or 50!

Once you get past the gratuitous static, blips, and noisy effects that litter the beginning of each of five songs on this EP, one finds there's a sharp genius at work here. On his first outing as a solo artist, Nebraska singer-songwriter Denver Dalley has constructed a messy collage of post-grunge ennui and anxious rumination about the nature of matter that rivals some of Billy Corgan's more baroque excursions into the center of the mind. Moody, gorgeous melodies collide with insinuating guitars, creating a fission where the real magic occurs.
