Free Music Review: Statlers Take Gospel To Another Level
Hit: 5 Stars

For someone who's musical tastes range from the neo-Cajun Pine Leaf Boys to hard rockers like Def Leppard and Motley Crue to edge-of-Country bands like The Mavericks and the Desert Rose Band, you'd probably think that a review of a Statler Brothers' album would seem out of place. However, I must admit that I have a very soft spot in my heart for these guys. Growing up in southwest Louisiana, my dad ruled the radio and was the primary music buyer in the family. I was treated to acts like Merle Haggard, Jimmy Swaggart, Fats Domino, and Marty Robbins. I also got a healthy dose of the Statlers who, other than Merle, were probably my dad's favorite artists. My first concert was a Statler Brothers show and I would eventually see them again in Dollywood a few years later. Their sound has stuck with me forever.

This particular album shows the Statlers at their finest: singing Gospel music. I'm not talking about modern Gospel sounds. Nope, I'm talking about Southern Gospel, complete with four-part harmony, string pickin' and plenty of "oomph" to get you on your feet. Contemporary Christian artists can't hold a candle to traditional Southern Gospel sounds. From the wonderful "Just A Little Talk With Jesus" to the upbeat gem that is "I'll Fly Away," this album is wonderful. My personal favorite tunes include "Precious Memories" and "Turn Your Radio On."

Yes, a kid who grew up with Guns N' Roses, Whitesnake, and Metallica does know what good music is. You may not fancy my other tastes in music, but give the Statler Brothers a try. You might be surprised at how much you will really enjoy them.

Highly recommended.

Free Music Review: LET THOSE WITH EARS,HEAR THIS.....
Hit: 5 Stars

THE STATLER BROTHERS HAVE HAD 33 TOP TEN COUNTRY SONGS AND A POPULAR TELEVISON SHOW VARIETY SHOW IN THE 70'S.THE SHOW ALWAYS ENDED WITH MY FAVORITE PART...THE GOSPEL SONG.THE BROTHERS GATHERED AROUND A GREAT GOSPEL STYLE PIANIST AND DISPLAYED WHAT HAS ALWAYS SET THEM APART FROM OTHER COUNTRY OR GOSPEL GROUPS,NAMLEY,THEIR GREAT HARMONIC VOICES.FROM THE HIGH TENOR TO HAROLD'S DEEP BASS VOICE,THEY MADE SONGS COME ALIVE,NEW AGAIN WITH A VERSION NOONE HAS BEEN SINCE BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE.(I MUST SAY,IN FAIRNESS ,THAT DAILY AND VINCENT'S SALUTE TO THE STATLER BROTHERS,WHICH WAS THE BLUEGRASS ALBUM OF THE YEAR, COMES PRETTY DARN CLOSE)...IF YOU LOVE GREAT HARMONY AND SOUTHERN GOSPEL MUSIC....THEN,THIS ALBUM WILL NOT DISAPPOINT.

Free Music Review: Great gospel by great group
Hit: 5 Stars

Great gospel album, plain and simple. The four-part harmonies of the Statler Brothers were never better, and this is the kind of music that makes them shine. I must disagree with those who lament the addition of Jimmy Fortune. While I liked the earlier work with tenor Lew DeWitt, I think Jimmy's voice is fantastic and the group's sound, though a little different, is every bit as good. These are all simple, down-to-earth gospel numbers--all good, with my favorite being the live version of "I'll Fly Away", which has a unique change of key in the middle and enough energy to send you off for the remainder of the day. Good stuff!

Free Music Review: I agree with Robert
Hit: 5 Stars

I heard Statler Brothers for the first time in 1984 "The Legend Goes On" and "Years Ago" vinil. I love it. Several years later, I bought a CD and to my surprise I heard a different harmony, it was not the harmony, it was a new voice, a new sound. I discover, I didn't know that DeWitt was dead and a new singer cover him. I love Statler Brothers, the first and the actual group.

Free Music Review: Gave as a gift
Hit: 5 Stars

I gave this product as a gift and have not listened to the music. However, I am a fan of the Statlers and know that it is a great CD as is all their music. Therefore I gave it a 5 star.
