Free Music Notes for Stax 50th: 50th Anniversary CelebrationFree Music Review: As good a place to start as any for this great southern soul music Hit: 5 Stars
Along with Hi Records (Al Green, Ann Peebles, Syl Johnson, et al), Stax (and it's subsidiary VOLT) introduced America and the world to Memphis Soul Music. This compilation gathers the greats and the not-so-familiar into the perfect introduction and overview to Stax Records. Highly recommended. The package of art/booklet/box, in addition to the great sounding remastering, only adds to the enjoyment.
Free Music Review: Great Compilation - Memphis Music Hit: 5 Stars
I first saw this CD at a store on Beale Street in Memphis. I almost bought it there but couldn't believe the price on Amazon. It has the definitive collection of Soul, R&B and Blues from the Stax era in Memphis. There are 50 songs on the 2 CD set and at least 2/3's are awesome! Many songs you won't find many other places - and they are all in one place.
Free Music Review: PURE SOUND OF R&B Hit: 5 Stars
This release is first class all the way. Every note played and sung just drip with the soulfulness we only hear today from the likes of Solomen Burke and Bettye Lavette who were around when these recordings were made. The mastering is the best yet and the beautiful package is fitting of this special material. Rough, raw and hot.
Do not miss this!
Free Music Review: What can I say? Hit: 5 Stars
This was a no-brainer. Fifty awesome Stax tunes in a great package for a great price. I got this on Amazon for $9.99. I was shocked to get such a great collection at a great price. And the full-color booklet that comes with the set is awesome! Lots of history and cool photos. If you love music, you need to have this set!
Free Music Review: stax of hits Hit: 5 Stars
STAX have a reputation for pure soul as opposed to a certain label who
'motored' off in to a commercial watering-down of black music. Here we have
a generous fifty tracks on two cds of real soul music, not all hits, but all
representative of what STAX could do.A great compilation!
