Free Music Notes for Pippin (A Decca Broadway Original Cast Album)Free Music Review: I love this show! Hit: 5 Stars
Last year they did Pippin at my school's drama program. Though I'll admit that from a harpist's point of view the music sucks, from a listener/viewer's point of view, it's "the best to come along, in a long, long while." I'll also admit that I have an ancient recording, and it doesn't have the 3 bonus tracks. I'm intrigued by the thought of Michael Jackson singing "Morning Glow," the song I would probably never imagine anyone but John Rubenstein singing. Moonwalk baby! If you just bought the CD and you haven't seen the show, it WILL mislead you (trust me, I did the same thing). First of all, "Spread a Little Sunshine" is by all means NOT sweet and innocent-the character who sings it, Fastrada, is like Evilbitchstepmotherfromhades. Also, the hokey music in the middle of "Glory," don't notice that. In the show, everybody's running around killing eachother and stuff. That song really only works with the performers behind it. This is definately a must see show, and a must get soundtrack!
Free Music Review: The Liner Notes Were Worth the Purchase Hit: 5 Stars
I saw this show on Broadway several times in the early seventies. It was my favorite musical. I own the cast album and have played it hundreds of times. Vinyl no longer suits my lifestyle so I went to Amazon for a CD. I was thrilled with the remastered version. I know people at the time didn't like John Rubenstein's voice for the role but for me it was perfect. He truly sounds like the lost soul looking for something. A slick singer would not have fit the role. I'm not big on the bonus tracks (that is what delete is for on my MP3). Michael Jackson is great on Morning Glow but the other two are down right bad.
I love the CD but I love the liner notes even more. The information gives another level to the music and story.
Buy it you'll love it. If you are a boomer like me, your sure to know the feeling.
Free Music Review: Better than being there! Hit: 5 Stars
I saw Pippin eons ago on Broadway. This CD brings back all the excitement. The music is great and the sound is excellent!
I HIGHLY recommend this CD.
My CD came with 3 bonus tracks:
"I Guess I'll Miss the Man" by the Supremes
"Corner of the Sky" by The Jackson 5
"Morning Glow" by Michael Jackson
I confess though I've listened to the album quite a few times, I cannot bring myself to listen to the bonus tracks. It just seems so wrong to have someone else sing these songs. By the time I get to the end of the CD, the story is done.
Free Music Review: That's what I call music Hit: 5 Stars
An album of a great show that you can enjoy around the house (or car).Including tracks left off the DVD due to time limits, plus three bonus tracks from Motown stars. It brings the show to life without needing to sit in front of the TV. A varied medley of tuneful sing along songs that anyone can enjoy, whether they are familiar with the show or not, I must admit knowing the plot doubles the fun.Fortunately there are copious sleeve notes, plus an adequate plot line, so you don't miss out on too much ...apart from the brilliant Fosse choreography!!!!
Free Music Review: We Got Magic To Do Hit: 5 Stars
I always loved Stephen Schwartz, I loved Godspell, The Magic Show and Children of Eden, of course I was gonna love Pippin starring Ben Vereen. This is also a Bob Fosse directed play, so fans of Fosse should pick this up. The songs are vibrant, Magic To Do, Corner Of the Sky, In no Time All, On the Right Track, Extraordinary and a great finale. This is a pure Schwartz show that is very modest yet powerful, just like another Schwartz show, Godspell.
