Free Music Notes for Steppenwolf: All Time Greatest HitsFree Music Review: Clean your ears, Cody Hit: 5 StarsCody Vandever obviously has ears full of mud if he can't hear the difference between this new release and, using his words, "the ordinary product." Far superior sound quality, to say nothing of extensive liner notes missing from "the ordinary product," vaults this one to the top of the list of Steppenwolf compilations to buy. Forgive me, but previous releases sound muddy compared to this one.
Free Music Review: UNBELIEVABLE! Hit: 5 StarsThis is the best remastering job of any Steppenwolf cd I have heard yet and that is comparing it to a Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs re-mastering of their "Steppenwolf" album. The selection of songs are my favorites. Whoever put this cd together, I thank you.
Free Music Review: Hard rockin' at it's best from an underappreciated band! Hit: 5 Stars"Steppenwolf: Steppenwolf's All Time Greatest Hits" is for the most part an exact copy of the 1985 version of the band's album, "16 Greatest Hits". The remastering on this album is effectively done and adds to your listening enjoyment. This great album is, in some respects, a microcosm of some key political and musical movements during the later 60's and early 70's. The group's anti-drug song, "Snowblind Friend" is a commentary on the evils of drug abuse and the "hold" that drug usage has on people. "Monster" is a wonderful example of some of the war protest songs so prevalent in the last 2/3rds of the 20th Century and who can't think of motorcycles and the hippie movement when you hear "Born To Be Wild". John Kay's vocals are tremendous and his range is outstanding. Also present are outstanding musicians like drummer Jerry Edmonton and one of this era's best organists, Goldie McJohn. The orchestration and lyrics of these 16+ songs make this album worth any price. When classic rock fans think of Steppenwolf, they almost certainly conjure up the melody and lyrics to the aforementioned "Born To Be Wild" and, of course, "Magic Carpet Ride". But fans of the genre' will be impressed with lesser-known gems such as, "It's Never Too Late", "Who Needs Ya", and my personal favorite, "For Ladies Only". Get this album and enjoy some great songs, great musicians and great memories from the 60's and 70's! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Free Music Review: Pretty Good Hit: 3 StarsThis album is pretty good especially the first couple of songs, then kind of dwindling towards the end songs. Buy this album if you are a true fan and a person who wants to experience a good flavor of good music.
Free Music Review: Nice Collection Hit: 5 StarsI ordered this CD last week after seeing the band for the first time, although I'm not a new fan. This CD contains all of the band's hits plus a few I don't remember. One of my personal favorites is "Hey Lawdy Mama". There are no live cuts here, nevertheless, fans in search of a good greatest hits collection should be pleased.
