Free Music Notes for Steps - Gold: The Greatest Hits

Free Music Review: Great cd from a great pop band
Hit: 5 Stars

this is a great cd! i have been a fan of STEPS since 1999 and this is absolutely the best of their work. all of the songs on this cd are catchy and easy to sing and have fun with. all 3 girls in the band have fabulous voices, they each sing on different songs and all of them are worth listening to. i especially like TRAGEDY, STOMP, CHAIN REACTION and SAY YOU'LL BE MINE, but every song is worthy of being on a best of cd. most people in the states have probably never heard of STEPS. they are very well known in England, and were very succesful there, having a number of #1 hits and albums. Give them a chance if you like this genre of music. you will not be disappointed and you will find that the songs stick in your head after the music is done.

Free Music Review: The best songs of steps ever
Hit: 5 Stars

Tragedy- I liked the song when I first heard it, but it does get a bit boring after a lot of listens 5/10

One For Sorrow- A fantastic Steps songs with lovely lyrics 9/10

Stomp- An uptempo, dancey party song, which is one of my favourite Steps songs, but it isnt long enough 9/10

Better Best Forgotten- A cheesy song with great lyrics & a fab dance routine. I love this one too 10/10

Loves Got A Hold On My Heart- Another one of my favourites, pure pop 9/10

Deeper Shade Of Blue- Not too keen on this song but still listenable 7/10

Last Thing On My Mind- Another great song with fab video 8/10

Better The Devil You Know- Its okay, quite an average song. 6/10

Summer Of Love- I didnt like this when I first heard it, but now I do, it grew on me. Electro pop song. 7/10

5 6 7 8- Steps at their very best. The first song was the best. Its 90's cheesy pop & I love it 10/10

Chain Reaction- Another fab song which gets 10/10

Baby Dont Dance- A bit of a let down, I dont like this song. Not a good single. 2/10

Its The Way You Make Me Feel- Another favourite steps song featuring a lot if not all of the band on lead. I also love the costumes in the video for this song. 10/10

After The Love Has Gone- Slow song but still worth a listen 7/10.

Here And Now- Good, strong song, dont like the video at all though 9/10.

Say Youll Be Mine- Great song with fab lyrics & fab video. One of my all time STEPS favourites 10/10

Only In My Dreams- Another great song which should have been released 10/10

Words Are Not Enough- Not as good as some of the other songs but still worth a listen. 7/10.

When I said Goodbye- Romantic, slow song which is okay & worth a listen. 7/10

Heartbeat- Yet another fantastic song from Steps. Pure pop music which i love. 9/10.

Overall a perfect album for all the pop music fans out there. Expresses the magic of steps & their music perfectly. I wish they hadnt split up & had made more music like what is featured on this album!

Awesome CD! Here I wrote a few little reviews on each song.

1. TRAGEDY (3/5) This song gets old.
2. ONE FOR SORROW (5/5) As on previous CDs have been remixes, but the original is pure fantastico.
3. STOMP (5/5) Great dance tune.
4. BETTER BEST FORGOTTEN (3/5) They sound like chipmunks...
5. LOVE'S GOT A HOLD ON MY HEART (4/5) Great song, gets dull.
6. DEEPER SHADE OF BLUE (4/5) This one gets old too!!!
7. LAST THING ON MY MIND (2/5) Too much of an old disco tune.
8. BETTER THE DEVIL YOU KNOW (5/5) Cover after Kylie, its better.
9. SUMMER OF LOVE (5/5) Love the latino theme!
10.5,6,7,8 (2/5) Rodeo - what the - it gets old as well.
11.CHAIN REACTION (5/5) One word - Awesome. Better than Diana Ross's version.
12.BABY DON'T DANCE (5/5) Nice new rhythm and beat.
13.IT'S THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL (5/5) A nice millennial ballad written by Jorgen Elofsson, who also wrote a few of Britney's songs.
14.AFTER THE LOVE HAS GONE (5/5) Nice oriental theme.
15.HERE AND NOW (5/5) Very awesome. The remixes are even better, check out Here and now/Youll be sorry Singles.
16.SAY YOU'LL BE MINE (1/5) My least favorite song.
17.ONLY IN MY DREAMS (4/5) A nice shot at Steps' first together songwriting job. Not bad.
18.WORDS ARE NOT ENOUGH (4/5) Good ballad, not the best though.
19.WHEN I SAID GOODBYE (5/5) Really nice song about love.
20.HEARTBEAT (5/5) A nice uptempo ballad that'll get you up & singing.

SO THAT'S IT!!!
STEPS are the best, too bad they broke up! :(/:)

Free Music Review: Killing The Music Industry!
Hit: 1 Stars

Okay if "boy bands" were pretty bad and "girl" bands equally so,this latest trend of squeaky clean "boy/girl bands" is simply the worst yet.I had the misfortune to hear this album in it's entirety and it just made me want to puke!First of all I love most forms of pop music.Even if it's all blatantly over-commercial I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with is manufactured groups like Steps, who have very little talent and do endless putrid cover versions of great songs like "Tragedy",etc.Okay "Deeper Shade Of Blue" does have it's very catchy moments and is a clever pop song. But I mean this group were put together to appeal to the under 10's.Brilliant marketing strategies and endless over-exposure(they even have there own t.v. show over here!) means they are guranteed success no matter what bile they produce.Again I have no problem with groups aimed at this market but record companies seem to be putting very little time, effort and money in to acts that strive to write their own material and at least produce a sound that is in someway original. It is no wonder that endless music commentators have been saying recently that the British music scene is at it's lowest ebb ever. Now because of the chart success of groups like Steps we seem to be getting an endless conveyor belt of groups like this. It's also becoming common for their behind the scenes creators to decide that each group has a marketable shelf life of 2/3 years before they turf out some new group on us-it's so unbelievably cynical!Steps are a product of the most bland type of music imaginable-if you want to hear cover versions done badly go to a karaoke bar!The reason I actually managed to give this c.d. one star is that this c.d. heralds the end of Steps-thank goodness for that. Now roll on the next batch of attractive harmless "sugar-sweet" role models!

Steps is one of the few modern pop groups that I have enjoyed. Why they never achieved any success here in the states is beyond me. Their songs are much better than what the current crop of pop acts churn out ad nauseum. Being a massive ABBA fan, I fell in love with Steps music the moment I first heard the slow version of "One For Sorrow". That song just had ABBA written all over the song. Granted songs like "5,6,7,8" and "Stomp" are laughable and rather stupid lyrically, musically they are some of the catchiest pop music since ABBA. Even the line-up is almost ABBA-like. It is a shame that this group broke up so soon. Nevertheless they gave their fans a terrific greatest hits compilation. Over 75 minutes long, the selection of songs are excellent. All my favorite songs off "Step One" is on this cd from "After the Love Has Gone" to "One For Sorrow". I particularly loved the song "Here and Now". The song is catchy as hell and I find myself playing it over and over. The vocals are perfect, the melodies are excellent. Overall one of the most perfect modern pop songs I have ever heard. I love how the cd itself is the color gold. Now while I am disappointed that the group broke up, "Gold" is an excellent reminder to how good pop music can sound and a testament to the group's brief legacy.
