Free Music Notes for El Corazon

Free Music Review: Righteous
Hit: 5 Stars

I have many CDs from Steve Earle, this is one I particularly keep coming back to. "Here I am" is the most righteous song. Most artists who survive the hell Steve Earle has put himself through and write about it write mediocre twelve-step-rock - one half step up from christian rock, imho. ("oh, I'm takin' it one day at a time with my higher power...") This song has the blood and scars of someone who's come through it and is still standing, heart on his sleeve, no apologies. Taneytown, Fort Worth Blues, NYC, Christmas in Washington, I still carry you around - all wonderful.

Free Music Review: Absolute masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

On this disk Steve Earle manages to harness the thematic and stylistic diversity of his work into a masterful whole. Love, politics, race relations, and a dirge meet Americana/ alt.country, bluegrass, vocal duets, the Fairfield Four, and grunge. Some people find the stylistic diversity and production touches (i.e. the faux record scratch on "The other side of town;" the vocal compression on NYC) bewildering - I think they're great - keeps the record from bogging down in two guitar/bass/drum sonic sameness. Personally, it is my favorite Steve Earle record.

Free Music Review: Phil Morgan - Forget OK Computer - album of 1997 is this!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is probably Earle's finest album to date, in my opinion - and he's certainly done some other great ones. Just about every song is a masterpiece, from start to finish, but my personal faves are "Taneytown", "I Still Carry You Around", "You Know the Rest", "NYC", "Poison Lovers", "Here I Am", and "Ft Worth Blues". Gee, that's over half the album. Really, though, has Earle ever come up with a better duet than "Poison Lovers"? If you like Earle and don't own this, get it!!!

Free Music Review: Great music
Hit: 5 Stars

What a wonderful songwriter and performer. Rivals Springsteen in talent in my opinion. Such creative range is displayed on this one album...From bluegrass to country to a song that could've been written by greenday (really!). But every song is not just different and unique but surprisingly good. This is what most impresses me about any great artist...That they can create songs that vary so greatly and yet are still so well done. Radiohead has this ability. So does Springsteen. So does Steve Earle apparently.

Free Music Review: Steve Earle is an honest, sincere genius!
Hit: 5 Stars

Quite simply, Steve is one of the greatest living songwriters and certainly the most original and insightful. If you haven't heard of him it's because he doesn't play by music industry rules. He takes chances and writes from his soul. His songs offer a vast array of music styles such that radio cannot find a place for him. If you appreciate intelligent lyrics with great instrumentation and some bad ass hooks, you'll love this album. Buy it, then buy the rest of his catalog.
