Free Music Review: I found this a boring exercise.

Either I don't like Townes Van Zandt or Steve Earle didn't do a good job covering his songs, but I just could not get into this CD. Some of the slower tunes were decent enough, but the more uptempo numbers did not work at all for me. I also felt Earle's vocals were far too grizzled, or something. Perhaps he was trying to set a tone, but it lost me at the bakery. I'll stick to Earle's CD's featuring original material, which I have enjoyed.Free Music Review: not good Earle

I love Steve Earle and this CD is simply too varied in quality to get my good review. He is all over the map in style, back ground music and does not capture Townes as I know him. Sorry, Steve -- good try but no cigar! It is hard to listen too, unlike most of Steve's recent works.Free Music Review: Steve Does Karaoke

After knocking out a string of truly great American albums Mr. Earle resorted to Karaoke of himself on his last CD and now true Karaoke on this one. Maybe another divorce or another Bush in office would get his creative juices flowing.
