Free Music Notes for For the Love of Strange MedicineFree Music Review: Underated.... Hit: 5 Stars
Steve Perry is exceptional. In "For The Love Of Strange Medicine" The sheer talent and vocal range is recognizable; but it is the emotion and depth that is shining in this album.
"Missing You" is up there with Mathis's "Twelvth Of Never" and other classic love songs. It makes your heart ache. "Anyway" and "I Am" are heartfelt and painfully honest vocals--Perry cannot write much fluff.... his heart is poured out in his soaring vocals and succinct lyrics. This man means what he sings.
The added joy of the 5 bonus tracks is wonderful! "If You Need Me Call Me" ans the bluesy upbeat "Can't Stop" stays with me for days... and I find myself listening to them over and over! The live version of "Missing You" is impeccable..... in a time where so many artists lack genuine talent ( now it is mostly about getting an acceptalbe figure-head who neither writes their own material nor adds to the creative process at all musically) Steve Perry is from a generation of music where talent meant we get something.... he gives a bit of himself in every lovely note that emits from his mouth.
It may not be the driving R&R you were used to from the days he was with the band... but if you want to experience some of the God-given talent that was bestowed on Mr. Perry.... get this CD.
Free Music Review: it's a funny thing... Hit: 5 Stars
I was never really a Journey fan. Maybe I was already too old by then. I knew even then, though, that they were much better -with- Steve Perry than they had been before him. But they were corny to me, and their sound, (which, in their case, may have been original), was so overdone in the 80s that I simply had my full almost immediately. As far as Perry himself, well, (besides holding Journey against him), I felt as though Sam Cook and Rod Stewert were more my style within that vocal approach. HOLD ON. I guess I'm a slow learner, maybe I just didn't want to follow a teeny-bopper trend, but Perry is sounding whole lot better to me. Rod's been sucking lately, and I've accepted that Sam is never coming back, and , gosh, it turns out the Steve is one of the greatest singers ever! Definitely the classic-rock all-time hero. So in tune, amazing range , great tone, much emotion, perfect phrasing., and technique that never overrides the song's intention. I'm gonna admit that I was 100% wrong on this one. This would be one of the few rock shows I would buy a ticket for.
Free Music Review: I LOVE THIS CD!! Hit: 5 Stars
I originally purchased this album as a cassette tape back in '94 when it came out, & hadn't heard it in years. Steve Perry came to mind recently, & I realized that I didn't have any of his music on CD. I remembered how much I loved this particular album, & bought it. I play it all of the time now - I LOVE every single song, & his voice just resonates so beautifully on all of them! I highly recommend this for any Steve Perry/Journey fan! You won't regret it!
Free Music Review: The Undiscovered Masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
An unexpected side of his music that you will fall flat head-over-hills in love with. First time you hear it, you may not know what to think. Ah, but this is the one you fall more and more in love with EVERY time you play it. Another jaw dropping performance from the maestro of the mic who soars here to a variety of profoundly heartfelt, soulful, bluesy, and rock songs.
Free Music Review: Love his strange medicine Hit: 5 Stars
This is a fantabulous album. All of the tracks are excellent. My two favs are "Anyway", a beautiful, sweet and tender song and "Can't Stop" a sultry, sensuous, and sublime song. And honey if you don't get the multiple double entendres of "cutchie-coo", then baby you are just one cold dead fish. That song should keep your motor hummin' and purrin' like a kitten...
