Free Music Review: pure talent!
Hit: 5 Stars

Steve Perry! Everyone knows the name because of the mega band Journey! By the time this album came out, Journey already had a considerable run with hits like "Wheel In The Sky", "City By The Bay", "Don't Stop Believin" (a song that is regularly played now at every SF Giants home game), and "Only The Young.

So it then would be no suprise when Steve stepped out with his very first solo album that it would also become a hit. The first song on the album "Oh Sherrie" was played all over radio in 1984, and to many, it was believed to be another Journey song because on air exposure was constant then. "Foolish Hart" followed and also recieved wide acclaim!
Listening to this album I found a somewhat lighter side to Steve than with Journey,
more love songs with Iland or Samba beats, which makes this album very dancy. If you are a Steve Perry or a Journey fan, this is an album that will be on your shortlist no dount. I have this in my car right now!

Free Music Review: Remaster sets the record straight!
Hit: 5 Stars

Steve Perry's first solo effot,1984's "Street Talk",is softer and more pop-oriented than the albums with Journey, but there's still that distinctive soulful vocal and musical quality that is pure Steve Perry-enough to produce 4 Top 40 singles-the Top 10 "Oh Sherrie",plus "Foolish Heart,"She's Mine" and "Strung Out".Other highlights include the 60s soul homage "I Believe",the ballad "Go Away",and the moving tribute to fallen 60s rock and soul icons "Captured By The Moment".The 2006 edition has excellent remastered sound(by Dave Donnelly)that is vastly superior to previous CD editions,3 interesting unreleased bonus tracks with his pre-Journey band Alein Project in the 70's("My My My My","Harmony","Makes No Difference"),the B-side to "Oh Sherrie"("Don't Tell Me Why You're Leaving")and a song from the "USA For Africa" album("If Only For The Moment,Girl). If you're a fan of Journey or 80's pop-rock,then this is right up your alley.

Free Music Review: Steve Perry does it his way brilliantly on solo debut album
Hit: 5 Stars

IMO a brilliant solo debut, in many ways different from his work with Journey because he got to do exactly what he wanted to do; he co-wrote every song. The vocals are lower, gutsier and more soulful but still powerful and passionate; in many ways it's a tribute to Steve's love for classic R&B, particularly on "I Believe". It's best known for "Oh Sherrie" & "Foolish Heart" but there are many lesser known gems here: "Captured by the Moment" an homage to fallen heroes, "Strung Out" a raunchy rocker about unrequited love. "Running Alone" sums up the spirit of Steve's first solo album: "The trick of the dreamer Is keeping yourself From the blues And I don't mind runnin'... alone" Oh and definitely get the CD with extra tracks... worth it for the R&B inspired "Don't Tell Me Why You're Leaving" alone!

Free Music Review: Love Me Some Steve Perry
Hit: 5 Stars

When I got this CD I couldn't imagine it being as good as it was but SP sings like no one else around. I had it playing in my car and it just sounds better each time I listen to it. I'm a super "Journey" fan mostly because of Steve Perry but he can hold his own like this CD demonstrates, the man just has some great chops. Especially the songs: Go Away, She's Mine, Captured by the Moment, My..My...My and of course Don't Tell Me Why You're Leaving are really great tunes. A true fan would love this CD, great music and terrific singing by "The Voice". Love me some Steve Perry, probably because I'm a female but no matter how old he is he still looks like a HOT POTATO-yum!!

Free Music Review: Street Talk
Hit: 5 Stars

I had bought Street Talk when it had orignally came out in the 80's, on Album band tape. Bought it about a year ago on CD, Now again I have bought the new "remastered" version. LOVE it even MORE.... the addition of the bonus songs are great. I can't stop playing "Don't Tell Me Why Your Leaving" and "Makes No Difference" over and over again. What a refreshing change in style and these songs show his fans just what a wonderfully talented performer/artist Mr. Perry is... And "The Voice" should be a standard for what a singer/entertainer should be. Wish he would put out something BRAND NEW.... Doesn't matter what it is, as long as the "Perry Voice" is singing again.
