The problem I always have with Steve Vai's music is that listening to his albums is a lot like eating at a Chinese restaurant. Five minutes after shutting down the CD player, I'm hungry again, but not for more of what Steve is dishing up. Yeah, his style is flashy, fast, tasty, and loaded with musical MSG flavor enhancer, but horribly lacking in content. Mr. Vai is a skilled musician, but that's where his talents begin and end. He's NOT a composer, save for his lightening fast acrobatics, and adolescent male power fantasy whammy bar dives amid crushing distortion. It's garage band masturbation at it's best, but Vai isn't just out of touch with his listeners...he's sound like he's out of touch with himself, too. Anyhow, if you're 14, you'll probably love this album, and I'm assuming that this is the audience that Vai and his managers consistently aim at. However, if your musical tastes have finally outgrown the larval stage, leave this CD at the pop stand where it belongs. I gave it one listen, and then pitched it into the waste basket...the last and only Vai album I'll ever waste money on.
