Free Music Notes for Stand BackFree Music Review: Stand Back is a hit all over again Hit: 5 Stars
In 1983, Stevie Nicks released the lead single from her second solo album, "The Wild Heart." The single was, "Stand Back," and it became a huge cross-over hit on the Billboard charts. Peaking at #5 on the top 100, and staying in the top ten for over two months, the song also hit the top 15 on Billboard's club charts, and hit the top ten on the rock charts.
Flash forward to 2007: Stevie approves some remixes of the song by various DJ's, and the tune is released to the club circuit and as a cd single and becomes a smash hit again. The remix by Tracy Young peaked at #2 in August 2007 on Billboard's dance club charts.
What is great about these new versions of this pop classic, is how the song is updated without taking anything away from it's original form. if anything, Nicks' vocals are brought more front and center here, especially in the "Tracy takes you home" version, which builds to a tremendous frenzy. These new versions of the song could very well sound like what the song might have sounded like if it were originally released brand new today.
I think this is a terrific item for Stevie Nicks fans like myself, and obviously for anybody who loves the remixes at the dance clubs.
Stevie Nicks is a legend and her music is, obviously relevant enough to warrant a re-release of one of her most popular songs, and become a huge hit again.
Free Music Review: Stevie Nicks timeless classic, turned into hip hit Hit: 5 Stars
"Stand Back" is easily one of Stevie Nicks' most recognizable and popular songs. When it was first released back in 1983, it went to #5 on the Pop Charts. Now, nearly 25 years later in 2007 the dance remix reached #2 on the Dance/Club Play Charts. This simply proves the timelessness of Stevie's voice. One thing evident when listening to these remixes is that voice, is what makes the tracks. Sure the beats are cool, but Tracy Young and others have managed to mold Stevie's voice around the tracks, using effects and other techniques. Some vocals that were buried in the original "Stand Back" single/album cut, shine here, that I personally never even knew were there. The same thing was done to a cut from Stevie's 2001 solo album "Trouble in Shangri-La," a song called "Planets of the Universe" (Which was eventually nominated for a Grammy Award). Tracy Young was involved in those remixes as well.
This is a must have for all Stevie Nicks fans, as well as fans of Dance/Club music in general. I found myself dancing around in my car listening to this CD on the way home from work tonight. Stevie Nicks' power as a vocalist and songwriter is not limited to ballads and full-fledged rock songs, as we see here---you can also DANCE TO HER!
Free Music Review: A Classic Song Re-Imagined Hit: 5 Stars
Stand Back - written by Stevie Nicks and released as a single in 1983 - was and still is a stand-out song. One could actually call it a classic song and not be exagerating. With some uncredited backup help from Price, who Nicks has said helped inspire the song, Stand Back quickly became a hit. It's hard to improve upon a classic - just ask anyone who has tried and they will tell you it's a daunting task and one best not undertaken. What this collection of various versions of Stand Back is is a re-imagining that serves to bring the songs to modern dance club standards without diminishing the original piece. This is definitely a must have for Stevie Nicks fans who are open-mined enough to experiece a beloved song served in a different, more funky style.
Free Music Review: if you couldnt get it remixed in 83 this is still awesome Hit: 5 Stars
dj's back in 83 bent over backwards to remix and lengthen the running time for STAND BACK to fit the dancing audience demand. but these were never available. CRYSTAL VISIONS; THE VERY BEST OF STEVIE NICKS has made it possible to revisit this dance classic in now a more modern remixed form and there are plenty of remixes by a couple of today's most renowned dj's. not the original vocal but still AWESOME.
Free Music Review: Stand back - the Mixes Hit: 5 Stars
What is there really to say but this is an excellent group of mixes for one of her most popular songs (and my favorite) Stand Back. It has several different mixes some with more music then the actual lyrics being sung. The things remixers can do to a song will amaze you, especially how many different ways the song can be redone. I have a few favorites and you will to if your a true Stevie nicks fan.
