Free Music Review: Fantastic album
Hit: 5 Stars

I must admit when I first heard Stevie Nicks was coming out with a new album, I was weary of its quality, even though, I consider myself a strong Nicks fan. However, I decided to give it a listen, and WOW, what a pleasant surprise. I literally can't stop listening to it, and when I can't listen to it, the songs won't leave my head. I wouldn't go so far to say it's better than Bella Donna (Nicks first solo album, which is now a classic), but it is definitely a close second.

The best songs on here are the title track, the chorus on that is brillant, "Planets of the Universe" is great, "Everday" is very catchy and "Fall From Grace" represents the comeback of Stevie and rock and roll, with it's rocky melody reminiscent of earlier classics like "Edge of Seventeen", "Talk to Me" or "Stand Back". Another one of my personal favorites is "Too Far from Texas", which is VERY country, and features a duet with Natalie Maines. Just these songs alone show how eclectic the songs are on this album. There is something for each fan to listen to here.

If you are a Stevie Nicks fan in the least, you would LOVE this album. There are few times when her voice is a little too low, and nasal on the openings of some songs, but listen to the song to the chorus, and you will be blown away.

A definite "come-back" for an amazing rock icon.

Free Music Review: And she's back!
Hit: 5 Stars

I must say this CD was well worth the wait. Stevie continues to enchant her most loyal fans, as well as make some new ones along the way.

I though for sure that this CD would be over-produced, based on the number of producers listed in the credits. but, each brings their own style and helps bring Stevie's lyrics and music to life. If you close your eyes and listen, it is like Stevie has gotten inside of your head and has written the songs about your life. "Too Far From Texas" is so my life, it is eerie.

The album kicks off with the super cool "Trouble in Shangri-La", I always have to listen to this one twice, it just has such a great vibe to it. My other favorites are "Planets of the Universe", "Fall From Grace", "Bombay Sapphire", and "I Miss You". I picture myself in some plush room in front of a fireplace, surrounded by candles when I listen to this CD, I don't know why, that is just where Stevie takes me I guess.

Along with lots of big name producers, Stevie gets some help on the performance side from friends like Sarah MacLachlan, Macy Gray, Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks, and Sheryl Crow (whom she feels is like her little sister, how cute!).

You MUST buy this CD! it is a must for Stevie's fans and if you are not a fan, buy it anyway and you will be after you listen to it.

Free Music Review: No trouble in this Shangri - La
Hit: 5 Stars

Trouble In Shangri - La is the perfect title for such exotic song names within this album. The tropical paradise theme runs through each part of the album, from the lively and bright 'Sorcerer', powerful 'Planets Of The Universe' and exotic 'Bombay Sapphires'. There's also the standard mix of pop/ rock ballads, like 'Every Day' and 'I Miss You', which are slightly more bland, but still refreshing. Stevie's voice is a bit deeper than it used to be, which makes a few of the songs (particularly Every Day) sound a bit like a microwave singing, but still she manages to overcome this on most songs, and sound much more original than on the weak 'Street Angel' album. A particular highlight of the album is the mighty "Fall From Grace', which is a fast pace rock tune, with amazing layers of guitar, and Stevie putting 200% energy into every note, especially the final line. Sheryl Crow's voice is a great addition to songs like 'Sorcerer' and the old Buckingham Nicks tune "Candlebright' , helping some of the higher notes to be stronger. The album ends on the gentle "Love Is', with Sarah McLachlan playing and singing with Stevie, and this really is a great ending to a truly magnificent come - back album for Stevie Nicks, after a few slightly more disappointing efforts in the early 1990's. Definitely buy this album! It's well worth it!

Hit: 5 Stars

I have always enjoyed Stevie Nicks as a solo artist rather than as a member of Fleetwood Mac. Maybe because the few songs that I do like from Fleetwood Mac were the Stevie Nicks songs. Although a fan of her music, I just never got around to buying any of her albums until "Trouble in Shangri-La". What got me to start checking out Stevie's music is the sample Destiny's Child used in their latest single "Bootylicious". The "Edge of Seventeen" sample reminded me that I need to start listening to her music.

"Every Day" is a pop/rock nugget that showcases Stevie's raspy, smokey vocals at her finest. I adore this song and the perfect single to kick off Stevie's new album. I did not need to read the credits for "Sorcerer" to know that Sheryl Crow was involved with this track. "Sorcerer" has Sheryl's distinct country/rock/pop sound written all the sound, blended wisely with Stevie's vocals. One of my very favorite tracks on the cd. Every song on this cd is wonderful. Mixer Chris Lord-Alge does an brilliant job on bringing out Stevie's voice on this endearing album. Sheryl Crow's contributions to the album adds a touch of country, rock and pop to Stevie's music which wasn't heard in the past. I hope fans don't have to wait another 8 years for another solo album from Stevie Nicks.

Free Music Review: Captivatingly Wise
Hit: 5 Stars

"Trouble In Shangri-La" is said to be Stevie Nick's best solo album to date. Before the release, the world had been anticipating her next studio project for seven years. The quality presented on this album proves that those seven years were worth the wait. This album presents a wiser and more sophisticated Stevie Nicks. Though her music has always been great, these tracks catch hearts in a more personal level. Her lyrics are written and performed soulfully. Though more mature, her mystic tone is still somewhat present. Regardless if the individual track is more rock or pop, she remains at her best. The Grammy-nominated "Planets of the Universe" capitalizes her talents. Her brilliant guest musicians add their own interesting flavor: Macy Gray, Natalie Maines (Dixie Chicks), Sarah McLachlan, and Sheryl Crow. Sheryl Crow beautifully helps produce and play some instruments on most of the album tracks. Such quality proves that she's another one of the greatest female rockers in existance. John Shanks, Melissa Etheridge's regular producing partner, adds his own edge in his produced tracks. Every quality combined makes for an unforgettable unique musical experience. "Trouble In Shangri-La" is sure to please many listeners for many years to come.
