Free Music Review: Best SRV album ever !!
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this on tape (i do believe i just dated myself) when it first came out and it's still my favorite SRV album. Besides the excellent music, the lyrics are really great on a lot of the songs. For those of you you may not be aware, the title "In Step" refers to the 12 steps of AA. This album was written after Stevie quit using drugs and was in AA recovering from his addictions. If this sounds like the lyrics are preachy, they're not.

For instance, on "Tightrope" :
"Afraid of my own shadow in the face of grace
Heart full of darkness, spotlight on my face.
There was love all around me, but I was looking for revenge-
Thank God it never found me - would've been the end.

Walking the tightrope, stepping on my friends
Walking the tightrope, was a shame and a sin.
Walking the tightrope, between wrong and right.
Walking the tightrope, every day and every night."

There are also a fair number of songs with good old fashioned blues type lyrics as well. Over all, this a great album, both musically and in some spots lyrically. It's my favorite SRV album, hands down.

Free Music Review: Stevie's Best
Hit: 5 Stars

This is truly Stevie's best album and it is (sadly) the only one that he did sober. The music rings with a vitality that surpasses even Texas Flood. There is a lot of positive energy that goes into each of these songs. It starts really strong with the House is a Rockin, then goes into one of Stevie's most Rockin songs, Crossfire. Tightrope is another good number, before going into a great cover of Let Me Love You Baby. Slows down the Tempo with Leave My Girl Alone. Picks up the pace with Travis Walk, and goes into another medium paced contemplative mode with Wall of Denial. Goes back into a more carefree mode with Scratch-N-Sniff, and continues that Mode with Love Me Darlin, and then slows down to a relaxing tempo with the instrumental Riviera Paradise. Then there is also the great Live renditions of House is Rockin, let me love you baby, Texas Flood, and Life Without You. These were recorded in my home of Denver. If you are even a causal Blues Fan, this is a real great album. Like I said before, this is Stevie's best and considering his output, that says a lot.

Free Music Review: If you can only have one SRV CD, this is IT!
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm embarrassed to admit that the first time I heard Stevie Ray Vaughan, I had my eyes closed "watching" MTV before they found reality shows more popular. He was alone, lip-synching something in garish lighting, but the song was HOT. I was fortunate enough that when this album was released, Stevie and Double Trouble promoted it in its entirety at the Arizona State Fair "in the round". People from five years old to 70 were rocking to the music; in my experience, only an Elvis Presley concert crowd matched this crowd's reaction. Stevie got a standing ovation for "Leave My Girl Alone". When I later got the album, I realized he sounded in concert as right-on as he did on the album. I have other of his CDs now but this is the best. Eric Clapton has said he didn't know where those hot licks of Stevie's came from (high praise); B. B. King said Stevie was "one of his children"; the producer of Austin City Limits on PBS said Stevie's concerts (old repeats) are the most requested. For the uninitiated. buy this CD, and you will find out why.

Free Music Review: A great album
Hit: 5 Stars

IN STEP was the last album to be made by SRV and DOUBLE TROUBLE. SRV would sadly pass away about a year after this album was released. This album is truly special to me because it was the first SRV album that I ever purchased and I can remember wearing that poor cassette out playing it over and over. Now with this remastered and reissued disc here, I am once again playing the heck out of this disc. The music is fresh and clear on this recordings and we are able to hear how great of a guitar player SRV truly was. THE HOUSE IS ROCKIN, CROSSFIRE, TIGHTROPE, LEAVE MY GIRL ALONE, LET ME LOVE YOU BABY are just astonishing songs that the listener will fall in love with. RIVIERA PARADISE is one of the greatest instrumentals of any genre of music ever set to record. We also have 4 bonus live tracks that show once again where the band really cut the mustard, they were a band that gained their fan base by touring and playing live. This album is probably one of the top 50 albums ever released and I highly recommend it to all who read this

Free Music Review: Best SRV
Hit: 5 Stars

When God (Eric Clapton) admits that Stevie was the best he ever heard you know he probably was. What Stevie transmitted was a combination of two simultaneous, uncompromised lines of energy from his heart straight into his fingers. Even today when one of his songs plays on the radio I find myself looking forward to the guitar lead in anticipation. Obviously there are many fine, gifted and talented guitarists out there but not one of them ever produced the kind of fire that he did. The thing that sets this cd apart from the others is the knowledge that this was his first since kicking his terrible addiction and his enthusiasm and energy jumps right out of the speakers like lightning and thunder. The strength it took to manipulate the barbed-wire guage strings he used came from playing and practicing every day of his life, creating the sound that will probably never be duplicated again. I miss him. And, like Hendrix before him, I can only imagine the music he would have produced by now. RIP.
