Free Music Notes for In StepFree Music Review: His Best Album. Period. Hit: 5 Stars
Okay, before you read this review, take a look at the ratio of other reviews regarding the number of stars given. At this moment, there were 57 5-Star reviews and 5 4-Star reviews. That says it all.
The first few tracks on this album show why SRV is considered the best Blues guitarist ever. "The House is Rockin'", "Tightrope", and his best radio hit, "Crossfire", are symbolic of his trademark aggressiveness when the guitar is in his hands.
One thing that a lot of people don't mention about SRV is his voice. The guitar is mesmerizing, but his voice a great compliment to his playing. Flat out, SRV shows his smoothness, not only in the album cuts, but also in the live cuts at the end.
Free Music Review: S.R.V. and Double Trouble's best album, period! Hit: 5 Stars
Personally, this album is SRV and Double Trouble's best work yet. Yes, we all know what some of the songs are about. His addictions and his life stories are poured into most of the songs and one thing is for sure, his heart and soul are in every song! "Crossfire" is absolutely addicting with it's brilliant guitar solo. "Riviera Paradise" is mesmerizing in it's artistic beauty. "The House is Rockin'" is an instant shot in the nuts. In Step is an album of progression and musicianship. It may not all be blues, but it is some great music by great artists. That should not be forgotten. God bless you Stevie! I certainly hope that heaven is enjoying one kick ass concert by you, Jimi and the boys!
Free Music Review: SRV - In Step Hit: 5 Stars
I just wanted to add some info for anyone who's considering buying this but is not completely sure:
The bonus track live version of "Texas Flood" is 7 minutes 22 seconds of Stevie's best live playing EVER recorded. It is amazing. By itself it justifies the $9 expenditure for any SRV fan. The live bonus "Life Without You" is terrific too, by far the best version I've heard of that song (minus the preachy little anti-booze speech he stops to give partway through), but nothing compares to the "Texas Flood" on here. I don't think I'll ever forgive myself for not having been born soon enough to see this man play live.
So if you're thinking about getting it - get it!
Free Music Review: The Sound Was 5 Stars
Stevie Ray Vaughan's In Step is indeed a powerful blues album released in 1989. Stevie Ray Vaughan had grown sooooo much as a musician his sound was more cleaner, with a sweeter touch than his previously albums with a rawer texican guitar sound. Resse Wymans really adds a special keyboard sound to the band Double Trouble. Chris Layton also sounds alot better, so does Tommy Shannon who in the 60's played with Johnny Winter. Their are many great blues songs including Leave My Girl Alone, and The House Is Rockin'. Their is also a really good slow song titled Riviera Paradise. This album should be considered in anyboy's musical collection. Highly Recomened!
Free Music Review: Brilliant, Incendiary Guitar Playing of the Highest Order Hit: 5 Stars
How does one describe the music of Stevie Ray Vaughan? Words simply cannot do it justice. Start with any CD in Stevie's catalog, and you won't be disappointed. His guitar playing never fails to inspire as much as it humbles. On this, his last studio album with Double Trouble, Stevie sounds particularly inspired. Listen not just for his guitar, but also his singing voice - much underrated, and easily as powerful and versatile an instrument as his beloved Number One. The recent remastering only serves to underscore what was already an excellent sounding recording in the first place. A must-have recording!
