Free Music Review: The Best Blues Album Ever Hit: 5 Stars
This is the best blues album I have ever heard. Included are the classics: Pride and Joy, Rude Mood, Lovestruck Baby, Lenny, and a song with one of the greatest guitar solos of all-time, Texas Flood. It's hard to say anything bad about an album where half the tracklist is classics, but some of the lyrics (mainly in the Buddy Guy cover Mary Had Little Lamb) are quite dull, but such is the nature of blues and blues-rock. Despite this minor gripe, Texas Flood is the definitive album in Vaughan's catalog.
Free Music Review: Modern Day Blues Classic Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of the finest blues albums to be produced in the past 25 years. Right off the bat from the blistering 'Testify' to the classic 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' to the closing jazz influenced 'Lenny' you know this album is going to be something special. SRV & TD are found here as a trio and you would be hard pressed to find a tighter band. This album is a little more striped down and more bluesy then SRV latter works. This and 'In Sessions' with Albert King are probably Stevie's best blues albums.
Free Music Review: Stevie's first major release, and a damn good one... Hit: 5 Stars
Gotta love this CD. John Hammond finally gives Stevie the break he deserves...and what he gave us in return is this great album. "Pride and Joy," "Texas Flood," "Mary Had a Little Lamb (Buddy Guy original)" are all here.... The bonus tracks add a little extra to an already great compilation of blistering guitar work. For an even better version of "Tin Pan Alley," check out Stevie's best live album "In the Beginning." Excellent stuff.
Free Music Review: One of the greatest blues album of all time Hit: 5 Stars
The debut album of blues best guitarist ever. He didnt pay for using the studio, a friend of his gave the studio time as a present for Stevie, after listening to playing. The whole thing was recorded live in the studio, maybe one overdub. I have played the track rude mood to people that are not even into guitars and everybody immediatly jump out of their chairs. Texas Flood is one of the greatest blues performances of all time. Stevie could play anything, nobody will ever fill his shoes.
