Free Music Notes for Live AliveFree Music Review: Live performances of Some great Stevie songs Hit: 4 StarsThis is a album of some of Stevie's greatest song played live with good results. The quality of his performances wasn't at his best but they were very good versions. This was an album produced to meet his recording contract requirements, not to please the fans. Although it isn't his best it is a must have for fans, it does have a few songs that were never released on studio albums. If you never got to see him perform live, this is a good taste of what you missed....a guitar hero & great showman.
Free Music Review: excellent Hit: 5 Starsthis is one hell of a good CD. The man can play the blues better than anyone, and can cover any song and make it better. Buy this.....its worth the money!
Free Music Review: Not his best Hit: 3 StarsSRV was one of the most exciting blues entratainers of all time. Unfortuanately, this album was recorded during one of the most troubled period of his life: just before he had to go to rehab for his drug\alcohol abuse. You can hear him struggling to get it together on these tracks. Any other live album out there is better than this one, this is only for completists.
Free Music Review: Worst of the available live stuff, but still good. Hit: 4 StarsJust doesn't have the electricity and punch of the others. 4 stars cause it's Stevie. The best live stuff you can (officially) buy is the DVD Live at El Mocambo... I am in awe of his performance in that one... tiny club in toronto, fiery performance that sends chills down your spine. Texas Flood in particular is mindboggling. If you don't have a DVD player, go get one just for that DVD. Then buy the Austin City Limits disc... it has two shows, one with an early Stevie, and one with the clean and polished Stevie late in life. On CD, In the Beginning shows an early Double Trouble lineup, and they rip through some great blues tracks. Short but sweet. Tin Pan Alley is a highlight. Stevie also shows of his slide chops. Live at Carnegie Hall has a cool twist... the trio is backed by a horn section, and features a female guest vocalist on several tracks. Great sound... great show... a real change of pace from the usual Texas roadhouse blues-rock trio cliche [don't get me wrong--it's a good cliche, and you're looking at the master here]. Finally, There's the Stevie Ray and Albert King disc. Which is a true classic. Great interplay between two generations of blues masters. Has a relaxed, jovial feel, and great music. Reminds me of the Howlin' Wolf/Clapton Muddy Waters/Stones collaborations of many years ago. There are many more excellent live shows out there... hopefully they too will be released. Some of the current cds and dvds are actually missing tracks, perhaps someday they will also see release.
