Free Music Notes for Blues at SunriseFree Music Review: Not "one of".... "THE" greatest electric guitarist.... EVER. Hit: 5 Stars
I am not an eloquent music critic, and can't make intelligent comparisons to others, so I won't bother naming any of my many "favourites". I love listening to any music which is performed with genuine love and passion. I am a sometime bass player and performer of moderate talent, and so, I listen to music with a musician's ear and heart. Even in Stevie Ray Vaughan's darkest depths of despair, it all fell away when he picked up his guitar and put his mouth to the microphone. Take the time to eliminate all distractions, turn the lights low, put on this cd, turn it up as loud as you dare (without distortion), sit back and get comfortable, close your eyes, and for once, listen with your heart and soul, not just your ears. I sincerely hope you will feel what I feel when I do this, everything from despair and desolation, to utter joy, hope, and belief in the human race as a viable organism. Peerless.
Free Music Review: A COMPILATION DOES NOT GET BETTER! Hit: 5 Stars
AT TIMES, COMPILATIONS SUCH AS THIS ARE A NECESSARY EVIL. ON THE ONE HAND, IT IS A REMINDER THAT THERE IS NO MORE NEW MUSIC TO COME FROM THIS GREAT STAR. ON THE OTHER HAND, IT SAVES YOU THE TIME OF TRACKING DOWN EVERY AVAILABLE SRV CD AND BOOTLEG CD JUST TO FIND THE SONGS THAT ARE RIGHT FOR THAT PARTICULAR MOMENT. THERE ARE TIMES THAT YOUR MOOD DICTATES A NEED FOR SLOWER PACED BLUES. THESE ARE THE TIMES THAT YOU WILL APPRECIATE THIS CD MOST. BUT DON'T CONFUSE SRV SLOW BLUES WITH A LACK OF QUICK RIFFS AND BELTING VOCALS. THERE IS PLENTY HERE TO PARTY TOO. I APPLAUD EPIC AND JIMMIE FOR TAKING THE TIME TO PUT THIS CD TOGETHER. IT RATES HIGH ON MY PLAY LIST ALONG WITH THE JIMMIE HENDRIX "BLUES", ERIC CLAPTON "BLUES" AND ALVIN LEE AND TEN YEARS AFTER "PURE BLUES" COMPILATIONS. EVEN IF YOU OWN ALL OF SRV'S CD'S, THIS IS A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BUY.
Free Music Review: Great SRV a must have for all fans Hit: 5 Stars
The first impression when deciding whether to by this CD or not is "I have all of these tracks already, why should I support Sony/Epic in making more money on previously released material". Once you get by that and you realize that you want all the SRV material available simply for the fact of supporting SRV & DT it makes buying it my easier. Then when you listen to it especially the track Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland and the alternate take of The Sky Is Crying from the album of the same name. You realize the 15-20 bucks you spent was well worth it. Stevie is just a damn good guitar player and just as awsome of a singer. This often gets overshadowed by his playing but on these slow blues tunes you can just hear the emotion coming from his voice. Go get it and add it to your collection.
Free Music Review: One of the greats Hit: 5 Stars
There aren't many people who could do what Stevie Ray Vaughn did with a guitar. There's Hendrix, Albert King, and Stevie, who else, you know? This album is packed with the fervid guitar playing Stevie is known best for. If you're just getting into him this is probably the album you'd want to get, it covers almost every aspect of his music. Old Stevie and Albert King play a classic, Blues at Sunrise, at the very end of the album. In between are songs like Tin Pan Alley, The Sky is Crying, and a blazing live version of Texas Flood, which I think just blows the studio take away. This is such a great album, NOT THE BEST, but definitely worth buying if you're just getting into Stevie or if you've already discovered him and want to hear more. Full of rocking blues, titanic guitar playing and gravely, red hot vocals.
Free Music Review: SRV, we miss you! Hit: 5 Stars
Blues the way it is meant to be played, from the soul. Stevie Ray digs deep on these cuts, they are incredible! From the beginning of Ain't Gone 'N' Give Up on Love, to the final note of his jam with Albert King on Blues at Sunrise, this album kills! A lot of these songs have been heard before, but it's always good to hear them again. Particularly interesting here is his live cut with Johnny Copeland (no slouch himself as a blues man) on Tin Pan Alley. So, just put this CD in your stereo, sit back, and turn it up! Let the music soak into your soul, close your eyes, and imagine Stevie's smiling, grimacing face as he bends those notes, with all his heart and soul behind it! Incredible.
