Free Music Notes for Stevie Ray Vaughan - Greatest Hits

Free Music Review: Just what it says , The Greatest Hits of Stevie Ray Vaughn
Hit: 5 Stars

Stevie Ray Vaughn was arguiably the Greatest Blues Guitar player ever (Some would defend Jimi Hendrix or possibly Eric Clapton). SRV was a virtuoso guitarist, and changed the way blues guitar is played. His licks are lightening fast. When Eric Clapton first heard SRV on the radio while driving in London one day, he actually had to pull over and listen to the song. Clapton decided before the day was over he was going to find out who this great blues player was. Clapton also later said "When you are with Stevie, you are in the presence of greatness. Clapton pretty much hit the nail on the head
Stevie was like Hendrix, only able to do a few albums before his unfortunate death.
Its no secret SRV is a Jimi Hendrix disciple and played much the same way as Hendrix did.
He starts with a version of "Taxman" the old George Harrison song from Revolver. Personally I prefer the version by the Beatles, but you do get a great guitar solo here.
Texas Flood is his finest hour with the blues, in my mind his signature blues song of his career. If you dont like this one you dont like the blues.
When the House is a Rockin, is a lively Rocker, certainly worth the listen.
Pride and Joy is another signature song of his, and probably my personal favorite as well.
The rest of the CD is very good, his version of "Little Wing" sounds very similar to the version Jimi Hendrix did, and both versions are well worth the listen. This is a must for any SRV fan or blues fan for that matter.

Free Music Review: Most of the Hits
Hit: 4 Stars

As a Stevie Ray freak, I'd recommend this CD to anyone as a starting point to getting to know this incredible musician. In the blues realm, Clapton's chops may be a bit clearer, and Van Halen may be faster but nobody has played with so much FEEL on electric guitar--not even BB King. The most curious thing about the Greatest Hits is that it starts with "Taxman." It never got much acclaim. The Beatles version is much better, and McCartney's scorching solo is much better, too. Other than that, it's a great CD from a musician's standpoint, but the songs are also fun and catchy. "Love Struck" is about the only major song missing here, but it's contained on Vol. 2. This is pretty much can't miss--Stevie's one of the All-Time greats.

Free Music Review: The Great Stevie Ray Vaughan
Hit: 4 Stars

When I first learned that Stevie Ray Vaughan had died in a helicopter crash, back in 1990, I really did not who he was. Since then, I have found out who he was and what a hole that he left in the world of rock and roll and the blues.

I first got aquainted with the talent of this man, when he appeared on Austin City Limits. I was struck by the way he handled the guitar. His talents were really showcased on both of the appearancs. I have since tried to buy everything that he has released.

As for this compilation, I am sure that there are going to better ones that wil be released over the next few years with more unreleased stuff. This is a fine start, but as a previous reviewer stated, this is just a tad short. Needs to be remastered with more songs on it.

It is an essential in an avid blues and rock and roll listeners' library, as a must have.

This is a great intro to Stevie Ray, but it is far from complete. Greatest Hits 2 will help you move in the right direction, but you will still need to seek out more gems. A great collection. Must have for any blues and rock fan. You like Jimi? Check out Stevie Ray.
