Free Music Review: Signed,Sealed And Ready To Be Shipped
Hit: 4 Stars

Stevie Wonder is still a ways away from his 70's breakout sound but he's getting alot closer. His heavy use of the clavinet
and funky material like "You Can't Judge A Book By It's Cover"
and a cover of The Beatles "We Can Work It Out" get the ball rolling. He still serves up the classic title hit as well as
some interesing tunes like "I Can't Let My Heaven Walk Away".
But as with all period Motown releaes it has it's padding-
marked by formless filler material between the singles. But that
would change in the next couple years!

Free Music Review: His best before his complete freedom
Hit: 4 Stars

How'd this on get overlooked? I see all the obvious Stevie masterpeices getting raves, but what about this one. Signed, sealed... is the final link from boy to man in Stevie's evolution. It's still "Motown Sound" based but you can tell that Stevie is trying to break the mold. Contains joyous soul shouters like the title track, "Sugar" (my favorite) and "I Gotta Have A Song". Brilliant!!!

Free Music Review: Not required listening, but at times rewarding

One of the songs on this album says "Don't Judge a Book by its Cover." Perhaps he should apply that to the terrible album cover as well. The music inside was pretty good, especially the title track, one of the most feel-good singles in pop history. Laid-back songs like "Never had a dream Come True" and "Don't wonder why" are average; so is "Something to Say." But there are some real solid songs here that are worth discovering. It was pretty ballsy to cover "We can work it out," but Stevie funks it up and it's one of the best covers I've heard of any song. "Heaven help us all" is a gospel-choir-backed prayer for, well, all of us. It builds and builds and has a fake ending and then comes back for more. It has a catchy melody and you might wish it was more than 3 minutes long. There are plenty of short songs here, 7 under 3 minutes. One of the best, "Anything you want me to do," has one of the best grooves you'll find in pre-genius era Stevie. "I Gotta Have a Song" has a rollicking chorus and would have fit much better as the last song on the album. All in all, a handful of great songs and a couple good ones, hard to complain about that.
