Free Music Notes for Stevie Wonder - The Definitive Collection

Free Music Review: The Essential Stevie Wonder
Hit: 5 Stars

I can sum up this review in just a few words. This album is for fans of Stevie Wonder's hits. It does not go into Stevie's obscure masterpieces, of which there are many. But it does highlight the most familiar of Stevie's tunes, while still showcasing one of the most talented musicians of our time. The album begins with his breakthrough live version of Fingertips (Part 2) which I am not very fond of myself, but which has to be included on an album such as this. We are then taken, more or less in sequence, on a journey through time as we grow with this artist's compositional talent. "Little Stevie Wonder" is a phenomenon. And if you didn't truly appreciate just how talented he is before listening to this album, you certainly will afterwards.

A great man, a great talent, and a great compilation. 5 Stars.

While we've all heard these songs before, they were an absolute joy to listen to collected here. Actually, our 16 year old son took time out from modernist offerings (rap, etc., etc.,) and became aware of Stevie Wonder due to his interest in Barack Obama. Our new Prez captured the imagination of youth much like JFK, and as a result our son asked who was this Stevie Wonder guy? After much laughter about my age [I barely remember John Kennedy's inaugural, though 11/22/63 seems like yesterday] his mom amd I explained that Stevie's been around awhile; the three of us then became huge Barack supporters, worked tirelessly for the election, and then kissed the horses and went off into the sunset. Or something like that. (Channelling Hunter S. Thompson, mea ulpa, mea culpa.........)

Free Music Review: The Best Single Disc Collection of Stevie Wonder's Hits
Hit: 5 Stars

It needs to be stated at the outset that Stevie Wonder has more than just 21 hits. But this cd brings together the best hits from the 1960s through the 1980s. They are also remastered with the best possible sound. You get "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)," "Superstition," "Living for the City," "Higher Ground, the anti Nixon "You Haven't Done Nothing," "I Wish," "Do I Do," "My Cherie Amor," and many more on one disc. Completists will wish the cd had room for "Isn't She Lovely, Frontline, Ribbon in the Sky, and a few others, but no one can quibble with what IS contained on this disc. You can always download the ones that are missing.

Stevie Wonder was the most soulful and funky singer of the 1970s. Your pop/rock collection isn't complete without this cd.

Free Music Review: Can't go wrong with this collection, although...
Hit: 5 Stars

A great collection for anyone who likes the music of Stevie Wonder. Starting with "Fingertips (Part 2)", the anthology acknowledges every Wonder mega-hit through the years, even though several songs that could have been included were ommitted, namely "Purple Raindrops", "With a Child's Heart", "Hey Love", "Superwoman", "All In Love Is Fair" and "Heaven Help Us All", to mention but a few of them. Those songs may not have been major hits but they represented Wonder's complete artistry as a singer, writer and producer. At least these efforts also deserved to be mentioned with his chart toppers. This collection of music is a must for any of Stevie, who may have been the biggest crossover star Motown ever had, including the Supremes.

Free Music Review: Motown's Main Man
Hit: 5 Stars

Steveland Morris Hardaway started life at Motown in Detroit as "Little" Stevie Wonder with the tunes "Fingertips Pt l & ll. His early mellow hits included "For Once in my Life" ,My Cherie Amour" and "You are the Sunshine of my Life". "Signed,Sealed Delivered Im Yours" was later covered by Peter Frampton. You couldn't go to a roller rink in the 70's without skating to "Superstition, (later covered by the late great Stevie Ray Vaughn) "Living For the City or Higher Ground". Even the synthesizer heavy "I Just Called to Say I Love You" is included as well as a few tunes that may not be as well known but still enjoyable. Stevie Wonder's career has spanned the decades and his musical styles reflect that.Well done Mr. Wonder.
