Free Music Notes for Talking BookFree Music Review: Is this guy an ET or what? Hit: 5 StarsHe can't just be a regular person. To write such brilliant music, perform and arrange is just an incredible achievment. You Are The Sunshine of My Life and Superstition, the two most famous songs on this album, really deserve their status. Those horns just rule the world. Maybe Your Baby is such a funky song, it keeps repeating the chorus, and you just pray it never ends. Big Brother features great arpegiated guitar and I Believe is one of my favorite songs ever. How can someone write so many great melodies, over so beautifully complex chords? You've got to check this out!
Free Music Review: The Funk Hit: 5 Stars"Superstition" is the funkiest song ever. It's even funkier than Pariament's "Flashlight." And that's saying something.
Free Music Review: The Perfect Soul Record. Hit: 5 Stars"Talking Book," is, quite simply, a flawless album. With songs and arrangements that are at times mournful and edgy, at times joyful and reverent, "Talking Book" will touch and amaze you.The most popular songs on the album are, of course, the classics "Superstition" and "You Are The Sunshine of My Life." Yet like those two, many of the other songs on the album explore feelings of loss and betrayal with the same eloquence and flair: the funky "Maybe Your Baby" (with a funky hook and haunting background vocals heard in much of Prince's late 80's work), "Tuesday Heartbreak," and "Lookin' for Another Pure Love." My favorite song on the LP, however, is "You Got It Bad Girl," a plaintive ballad with smooth synths and subtle, clever lyrics. The album ends with the soaring, hopeful "I Believe" (featured in "High Fidelity"). There is not one subpar song on this album. I'd bet that most musical artists could record their entire lives and not produce 10 songs that are anywhere close to the 10 on this album. Stevie Wonder has made some great LP's, and scores of great songs, but this album, in my opinion, is his best, and perhaps the greatest album I have ever heard in any genre.
Free Music Review: just Stevie......... Hit: 5 StarsWhen I was a younger, one of my best pleasures was visiting my pops place on the weekend and having the chance to just lose my mind in is vast collection of 12" vinyl and 45 singles. Like me, the man had a wide range of musical taste in all genres, so I blame my curiousity on him. One of the albums I raced for was the "Talking Book". My mom had some Stevie albums........but pops had them all. This man (Stevie Wonder)along with others molded my mind into what I look for in soul music today. Musically, Stevie Wonder combines immediate melodies with more complex orchestration to come up with classic gems like this. Stevie is that rare musician who has been able to take the music of many cultures and traditions to make something new. He has been putting into words and music, the pictures in his mind for years and nothing was different here. The hi-lite of my week was seeing this CD on sale in a remastered format. To even think of writing a favorite gem from this CD is mad......the entire CD is a gem..... the man is a gemoNe
Free Music Review: Stevie's best release Hit: 5 StarsAlthough this was not the first album of the Classic Period ('Music of My Mind' predates it by a few months), or the first sign of his special genius ('Uptight' was an early step in the right direction and 'Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer' was basically brought him into this new world), the merits of this album have made it one of the greatest of his classic period albums, an my personal favourite. One thing missing in modern music today is the concept album (although Maxwell seems to be keeping this alive; as well as some of the more artistic rappers of today) and this album is an absolute gem of a concept album. Most people would of course be full aware of the hits from this album; 'You Are The Sunshine Of My Life' and 'Superstition'. These tracks are hooks that drag you into the album. Track after track, Stevie will work the magic of his genius as you here the tale of his ill-fated marriage. Not one to dwell solely on himself, Stevie takes some time out during the middle of the album to give us some political commentary with the funky 'Superstition' and the folksy 'Big Brother' (how's that for a title!). ... This album is the album that drew me into the classic period so strongly and will always be my favourite. Although he did create other master works, this one is his most fully realised concept album and is a good starting point in the classic period. I love this album so much, I first purchasd it on LP and now also own it on CD. Yes; it is worth the dual copies. Listen and find out for yourself. But I warn you; after you're hooked on this one you will want ALL six classic period albums as well as 'Musiquarium'.
