Free Music Notes for Fields of Gold: The Best of Sting 1984-1994Free Music Review: great career capper, for his first decade Hit: 5 StarsI was reading some of the reviews about this and there is no way Sting's career is on the decline. There's a good reason he's got an up and coming hit single (only threatened by rap/R&B crunkers like Usher & Lil Jon) and his album debuted at #3 last fall. So there.
Anyway about this comp: it contains all the hit singles to the beautiful "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free" to the title track. It does not contain his three way duet with Bryan Adams & Rod Stewart "All For Love" but that's okay. This is nice and for any casual Sting or Police fan I recommend this. They may even come out with the Best of Sting 1994-2004. You never know.
Free Music Review: Poetic, Metaphoric, simply Beautiful!!! Hit: 5 StarsThis "Fields of Gold" collection enables us to take a glimpse at Sting's brilliant songwriting and awesome vocal performance. Every song on the CD is solid and thought-provoking.Sting expertly mingled different genres of music, making the CD full of varieties, such as the jazzy "Englishman in NY," the rock flavored "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free," and the melancholy "Fragile." The two new additions "When We "Dance" and "This Cowboy Song" are as excellent, very creative works. I certainly found enlightenment from listening to the songs. In addition to music, the lyrics are moving and poetic. I was on the verge of tears when I read the lyrics of "Be Still My Beating Heart" and "Fields of Gold." The words of "Fragile" are probably the most genuine portrayal of human life. The only drawback is that the collection is not complete. Some of Sting's most moving songs, such as "Mad about You" (my favorite), "Shape of My Heart" are missing. In sum, if you have not listened to lots of Sting's songs, the collection can serve as as a guide. For me, a loyal fan, it is a CD that continually reminds me of Sting's surpassing expertise in music.
Free Music Review: I've been stung. Hit: 4 StarsThis once punk "policeman" just keeps getting more mellow with age. But that's ok. I like his newer stuff too, even if some of it does approach "Phil Collins" territory. His first solo album sounds closest to "The Police" of course, especially in the excellent song "Fortress around your Heart". Most everything he released in these first 10 solo years is great, as well as what he's done since. You can't really do wrong when your name is "Sting", (his real name is Gordon). I also like the new songs almost as much as the hits. There is also the "Best of Sting and Police" album, but I would stick to the seperate collections. Enjoy.
Free Music Review: Genius Hit: 5 StarsSting is a musical genius. His eclectic sound and soothing rhythms appeal to me in a way no other artist does. I have kept this album playing in my car for quite some time now, and it does make for awesome mood music anywhere. Sting is just an awesome artist, and this truly is a collection of his best. I couldn't live without this collection. Can you?
Free Music Review: Best of Sting '84-'94 Hit: 5 StarsI remember the reason I bought this album back in the summer of '94 was because I used to listen to most of those songs on the radio, then I found myself recording them on cassette tape! Then I realized, "wait a minute! I think I'm obsessed with Sting!" So I decided the best way to hear my beloved Sting songs was to buy his "Best of" Album on Cassette, CD & VHS (to see him in a diverse variety of music videos) Since then, I became a Huge Fan of BOTH Sting and the Police!
