Wow. Stone Sour is such an awesome band. I must say that I was surprised that "Come What(ever) May" was as good and in some places better than their first album. There are almost no bad/mediocre songs on this album. It is quite refreshing to hear a band as talented as this one in today's music. So much of current music consists of silly, sissy bubblegum pop/rock artists who have absolutely no talent or who are just complete sellouts. That's not the case with these guys. After being out of the spotlight for nearly four years, they could have easily made an MTV-friendly album. They didn't and I thank them for it. Here are some highlights to "Come What(ever) May":
The first track "30/30-150" is an explosive track that features very heavy guitars and relentless drumming. The lyrics are terrific and Corey delivers a great vocal performance on this one. He harmonizes heavy and melodic vocals well here.
The title track is my third favorite song on the album. It shows tremendous songwriting abilities as well as a good mix of heavy and melodic parts. This is one to blast while you're in the car. The next track "Hell and Consequences" is my second favorite. This song is incredible. It is very intense and sounds a little bit like Slipknot. I love the brutal guitars and drumming, and the lyrics many can relate to. It also features a well-done solo by Josh.
Now to "Sillyworld"-my favorite on the album. This is a slightly new direction for Stone Sour. It is one of the more melodic songs they have made. Corey shows just a how good a singer he is here. His vocals are very powerful especially in the verses. The calm, melodic verses lead into a full-on hard rock chorus. Speaking of that, this song seems to rise in intensity especially after the second chorus. It ends with a great solo by Jim. Definitely one of their best songs.
The rest of the album is good as well. "Reborn" is the heaviest on the album and is very angry. It is perfect for swinging your head around. Other highlights include "Through Glass" "Your God" and "1st Person." The only track I don't like as much is "Socio." It's not bad, but doesn't stand out as much to me.
All in all, this is an exceptionally good piece of music. I recommend it to anyone who likes solid metal or hard/heavy rock. It is refreshing to hear a band like this when all you hear today are whiny, ungrateful idiots like K-fed, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Simple Plan, etc. who have no talent whatsoever and are total sellouts. Stone Sour rules! Rock on, guys.
