Free Music Notes for One With Everything: Styx and the Contemporary Youth OrchestraFree Music Review: Buy it for the "Medley" alone Hit: 5 Stars
I loved this DVD so much I bought 2 ! The medley is just a dream come true for STYX fans to hear, especially those who wanted STYX to get back to their progressive hard rockin' roots. It's so amazing to hear songs like "Midnight Ride" and the especially tasty riff of "Shooz" LIVE while the CYO dance and jump their hearts out with unbridled enthusiasm and love for STYX's music, the same love that made STYX my favorite band over 20 years ago. Now, to see this music being loved and embraced so completely and totally is such a blast to experience. "One With Everything" brings a tear to the eye, it's so moving, especially to hear the chorus singing in unison with all the joy they can muster. It's like "they get it" they really understand the greatness that is STYX.
I also can't remember a time when JY looked so incredibly happy, just watch him singing "Put Me On", it brings a huge smile to my face whenever I see it, it happens another time when during the "Medley" they transition into "Borrowed Time". JY looks like a kid again himself, what a great HIGH to that again. As a DDY fan, I never thought I'd enjoy watching STYX the same way, this DVD is the closest I've ever come to experiencing that special STYX magic.

I had been looking forward to the release of this CD, but had to wait until Christmas. Needless to say, I tore open the wrapper and popped it into the CD player immediately after getting it. I confess skipping right to the two new songs--Just Be and Everything, All the Time--since, like any Styx fan, I have been eagerly anticipating the release of new music. I was very impressed, and was instantly hooked on Everything, All the Time--which is more of a rocker than Just Be, which is an excellent mellow song.
After listening to the new songs a couple of times, I let the CD run through. My initial reaction was that I was envious of the kids who played along with the band. I then moved from that to just being impressed with how well they played and had to smile at their enthusiasm and evident joy-reminded me of how the guys in the band seem when they are play their shows.
Mixing the band and an orchestra was not only a cool idea, but it had excellent results. Of course, I am still looking forward to the original material CD, but this one will get me through for a little while.
I highly recommend this CD.
Free Music Review: Passing down the legacy Hit: 5 Stars
This is by far the best concert DVD I own. I can't tell you how many time I have played it. May absolute favorite part is when the violin player was introduced, her smile was ear to ear, and could she play.
We need more of this kind of DVD to keep the classic rock on the minds of the younger people. It sure beats the heck out of Rap, Hip-Hop and the rest of the [...] that passes for music these days. We need more music with a positive message from artists that know how to 'do it' after almost 30 years together.
Free Music Review: Styx at their very best! Hit: 5 Stars
To those of you who have panned this DVD - shame on you. Is it the Dennis DeYoung thing still eating at you? Get over it! This is a great concert and pure entertainment, period. Everyone I have shown it to agrees. The new tunes are wonderful. Bravo to the Contemporary Youth Orchestra, and first violin. It is refreshing to see talented young people so totally into Styx. Do yourself a favor. Forget Dennis, buy this DVD, sit back and enjoy!
