Free Music Notes for One With Everything: Styx and the Contemporary Youth Orchestra

Free Music Review: Very Nice
Hit: 4 Stars

The Orchestra seems to add a lot to Styx classics. We all know they've been playing the same songs in a slightly differed rotation for years on end now. I will say that the DVD is better than the CD. The youth orchestra really comes alive on the DVD. I also suggest listening to it with a surround sound system, especially if you are a fan of the orchestral additions.

Free Music Review: Amazing cd!
Hit: 4 Stars

This cd is fantastic. To hear some of the classic Styx songs with orchestration is wonderful. Big plus you get A Criminal Mind by Mr. Gowan which is an incredible song within itself. Just Be one of the new songs is really moving. Whether Styx fan or just finding Styx this is a good cd to start!

Free Music Review: Very good
Hit: 4 Stars

"Just Be" is a great new song.

The DVD is even better. You can see the fun and excitement in all the performers.

If you like Collective Soul's "Home", you'll probably like this, and vice versa.

Free Music Review: another perspective for Styx
Hit: 4 Stars

This is fine for those who enjoy classic Styx rock and want to listen to it in another way. Perhaps the DVD would be better.

Free Music Review: And they wonder why we buy bootlegs
Hit: 2 Stars

I hate opening most reviews with the same sort of negativity, however It never ceases to amaze me that great bands, producers, and record companies cannot get the simple concept of a live album. I love Styx, saw them for the first time in 1978, incredible band. Every live album they release has the same problem, breaks between the tracks. In the case of the new release, just like the 83 and 96 releases, the recording came from the same show, so someone had to actually go in and add the breaks! This took more effort then just leaving the recording alone.

People who purchase live records want as much of a feeling of a live show as possible, breaks between tracks do not add to that feeling. And finally why on earth would you put a new studio track in the middle of the show!!! Who actually thought this was a good idea!!! I do not care if the new song is the next Bohemian Rhapsody, put it at the end or the beginning of the CD. Or better yet save it for the next CD and give us the entire live show. Or at least put in that awsome medley from the DVD.

If you like Styx, go buy the DVD and rip the audio yourself, that way you can have the entire show, with no breaks and without a studio track tucked in the middle of the show. However, the music is awesome, the new song is very good as well, just needs to be at the end of the disc, not the middle. If anyone from the Styx camp is reading this, please go get a copy of the Pieces of Eight tour and release that as a live album.
