Free Music Notes for Copper BlueFree Music Review: Bob Mould Crowning Achievement Hit: 5 StarsFor all the influence Bob Mould has had on everything "alternative" with his work in Husker Du, and as a soloist, this is his crowning achievement.
Walls of guitar sound, his searing voice, and the heartbreakingly mournful/angry/sad "Slim", about the death of his lover to AIDS, worth the price, alone.
Free Music Review: Quite possibly, the most UNDERRATED 90's Album Hit: 5 StarsWow, listening to this album again 15+ years after its initial release reminds me why I tracked down all things Sugar. From the opening cut, "The Act We Act" through the songs that got limited airplay, "Helpless" and "If I Can't Change Your Mind" all the way to the end, there isn't a skipper in the bunch. I tracked down all the singles back in the day as well, since there were lots of additional B-Sides that were recorded. This album is a great cross between Pop/Punk/Grunge that works on all kinds of levels.
Some highlights, "A Good Idea", "Hoover Dam" and "If I Can't..."
Highly Recommended for anyone into great songwriting, loud mixed guitars and great music!
Free Music Review: Thank You Bob Mould Hit: 4 StarsThanks, Bob...thanks for your well written tunes and hum-able melodies in this context...Thanks for writing Hoover Dam! Wish you were given more recognition for your songs.
Free Music Review: Husker Who?!?! Husker What?!?? Hit: 4 StarsThis was my second introduction to Bob Mould. The first was Black Sheets of Rain, back in the summer of '91, when this guy, Pat, gave me the tape when we worked at Tracks together. For me, who was heavy into hair bands and metal at the time, it was quickly disregarded...left to die in the vast wasteland that is my tape collection. A few years later, stationed in Okinawa, JP, I was divinely intervened with this CD. My girlfriend at the time, would play this album over and over again, cruising up and down the island. Bob's lyrics are so real, you can pluck them out the air and the music is a perfect compliment, like a fine liquor to the lips. DOn't fret, that I gave this 4 stars, as it deserves 5 in my book. It's just that I can't seem to forget that girl and the hole she left in my heart. This CD is emotional therapy and to this day gives me goosebumps, "standing on the edge of the Hoover Dam".
Free Music Review: All-Time Favorite Album Hit: 5 StarsI purchased this album as a tape in college and lost it shortly thereafter. Like a previous reviewer, I repurchased it a few years ago and these songs are still some of my favorites - consistently.
Unfortunately it's not good working music since I sometimes stop to listen to the complicated harmonies and lose focus on my task. Small price to pay all things considered.
It's simply stated my favorite album of all time. I do not believe you will regret the few pennies you spend on this disk. If you do, send me an email because I would like to verbally berate you for your poor taste in music.
