Free Music Notes for Suicide (First Album)Free Music Review: essential suicide Hit: 5 Starsthis album shouldn't be missed by fans of honest, visceral, frightening music. the song "frankie teardrop" alone is worth the price of admission! makes a great gift! play it for your parents!
Free Music Review: A classic must-have! Hit: 5 StarsThis is were this whole industrial thing started. The absolutely brilliant mix of rockabilly-groove with ice-cold machinery.
If you'r in to industrial music, like Ministry, Nine Inch Nails or Marilyn Manson, or Synth/EBM this is an absolute nescesity in your record collection!!!
Free Music Review: Essential for fans of punk and industrial roots. Hypnotic. Hit: 5 StarsThis a group that was well aware of The Stooges and The Velvets before Bowie was involved in producing Reed and Pop. The Residents were also working in a similar fashion and in similar venues at the same time Suicide were.
David Lynch's name comes up when people want to describe the music, and any of their songs would've been great in any of his movies.
The music has this hypnotic quality (keep in mind this was the 70s and overlook the "Casio sound", but it shows you can sound great on a shoestring budget) with an in your face attitude out front. Every song on here could be covered, but "Ghost Rider", "Cheree" are prob. the most "commercial",but I think the songs are well written. Pretty dark stuff overall.
Suicide and Television in my opinion are overlooked, yet you can name just about every modern rock band after 1977 and they will mention having this one, because they were signed to a UK based record company. They do get mention in Don Letts' fairly recent documentary on punk.
This isn't a walk on the wild side. This is the true soundtrack for the "Summer of Sam" in my opinion.
The epic "Frankie Teardrop" influenced Springsteen's "Nebraska" (who would cover their "Dream Baby Dream" in 2005...showing that the Boss is a bona fide music geek), but the screams will jolt you out of the chair if you have it turned up.
You'll either really love it or really hate it. There's no in between.
Free Music Review: "Yeah keep them dreams burnin babe....forever" Hit: 5 StarsFew bands that can be so scary as this one are so damn funny too at times (unintentional?). With super-repetitive, trance-inducing synth-lines backing the possessed echoing vocals, I don't know of anything like it. It feels like a euphoric nightmare at times, full of the menace and hooks. Good for late night head trips...
Free Music Review: Awesome Hit: 5 StarsI saw Martin Rev & Alan Vega multiple times at CBGB's back in the 80's. This album is an excellent representative of their live shows. Only two guys but the sounds they made filled the club. Vega's one of the most charismatic performers from the 80's and like the Ramones, Suicide never received proper credit for groundbreaking music....
