This show won a Pulitzer, and is highly ambitious. Sondheim strove to write pointillistic music and, in doing so, created a unique theatrical piece. Try this lyric: "When the woman who you wanted goes, You can say to yourself, "Well, I give what I give," but the woman who you wanted knows that however you live, there's a part of you always standing by . . . mapping out the sky . . ." This difficult piece is delivered perfectly by Patinkin and makes "Finishing The Hat" into an amazing song/monologue.
