Free Music Review: ...the sound the earth would make if it could speak...

...and the title raises the question...who would want to hear the earth speak? There will be many that are arrogant of that fact saying that anything the earth says would be foolish and pointless as it doesn't have a brain and hence no basic brain patterns to mark its intelligence...but of course those that listen to the earth will realise how much it has been through...how much pain it has seen as the humming errodes from it's equatorial mouth...
...this is how the listeners of Sunn O))) are also divided...there will always be those that just think this is a monotoneous drone and nothing more...these people are not stupid...they are probably clever and happy with the structure in their life...they want things to remain normal...they want the sky to be blue and their music to remain an understandable mood...but they are ignorant of what they hear...
...a listener of Sunn O))) that enjoys it may come off as pretentious...just as someone who listens to Merzbow and (to some very very ignorant people) people who listen to post rock can also come off as pretentious...artistic noise makes people think that they are getting ripped off...as they honestly feel they could capture this sound themselves without any problems...they would be wrong...if you could read the scriptures of the Tipitaka in the final track along with the cold and dark instrumentals I must bow to you...because you truly have my respect...
...the tracks are separated into three stanzas...the first part "Hello-o)))-ween" is probably the most acessible and tuneful (if you've heard this track and that worries you...leave now...no one will think any worse of you) with a building up drone of a few notes it gradually grows and grows into a strong hum...once it has finally consumed you...time becomes merely a number...and you'll never want the riff to end...
...part 2 "Bass Aliens" is much more challenging pretty much does what it says on the tin...it sounds like little aliens chatting away through the bass amp...at this point it should feel like you are having a normal conversation with the earth...you should notice that time goes slower...if not you are either not a proper listener of drone...or just need more practice...don't worry about it...
...the final part "Decay" seems like the Earth confiding all its secrets to you...as someone reads from the Tipitaka with the drone continuing to hum like a factory generator until the final paragraph...
...if you think it's wrong to turn a drone into a CD...then by all means complain about it...but it really won't do you any good...pop stars make millions out of making little boys and girls sing absolute rubbish and if we complained we could not change this...so leave this music be...and perhaps open your mind to a culture beyond what you can feel in melody...and what you feel in the hypnotically slow rhythm of a bass...
P.S This is absolutely essential meditating music...
