Disk 2 is their earlier work, reminding me of Claire Voyant. Disk 1 is
the real seller.

"This Longing" has a manic jam from the middle on. It features a powerful, rolling bass punctuated by the screech of rhythm quitar.
If you like to dance, this is the one.

"No One" is the track that caused me to hit the Add To Cart button. It
has a primitive, 3-note bass with breathy vocals by Caroline, echoed by
a haunting rhythm in the background. Then Caroline ups the ante with wailing vocals, all set to a grinding industrial background and jewel-
like rhythm notes.

"Chimera" is as fine an ambient piece as you'll see anywhere, rivaling the mood masters like Steve Roach and Michael Stearns. It's too short at
three minutes, but in that time you're in a dark medieval cavern.

"Undercurrent" again reminds me of a dreamy Claire Voyant. But if only for the first three tracks mentioned, add this to your list of keepers.

Free Music Review: Sunshine Blind's first two albums
Hit: 4 Stars

With the exception of having heard a couple of songs by Sunshine Blind in the past, I am a new fan of the band. A friend of mine had burned a couple of Sunshine Blind songs each on two different mixed cds a few years ago for me. I loved what I heard. I always wanted to check out their music for some time but at the time, I could not find any of their albums. Thankfully I discovered through an advertisement in Gothic Beauty that the band's first two albums were re-released this past November on a two cd set called REWIND. The band reminded me a bit like Siouxsie & The Banshees with their blend of post-punk and goth music.

Disc 1 is the band's first album called LIQUID. Personally this is my favorite Sunshine Blind album. The songs really stuck out for me. I just loved the melodies and Caroline Blind's vocals especially on "Release" and their interesting cover of A Flock of Seagulls' "I Ran". On LIQUID, there is a couple of remixes of "Release" and "Neon", and the video for "Release".

Disc 2 is the band's second album called LOVE THE SKY TO DEATH. This cd took a few listens for the music to grow on me. While there aren't any songs like "Release" or "I Ran" on disc 2, the music is still worth listening.

There is a nice brief history of Sunshine Blind in the cd booklet for people like myself who have just stumbled upon this now defunct band. For a two cd set, the price isn't too shabby. It is a shame that I discovered the band too late to have seen them perform live. If you like goth music, Sunshine Blind is definitely worth checking out.
