I first heard Supersister on John Peel's programme when he played " she was naked " from " to the highest bidder ". in an unprecented move he had to play the track again before the end of the show as so many people phoned in asking to hear the track again. A friend of mine was visiting Holland so I asked him to buy me any new music by Supersister and he returned with " Iskander " and " Spiral staircase ". The former contains some magnificent sax playing by Charlie Mariano who brings a jazz element to the group, although they still have the freshness of a young prog-rock group. It's probably the only album in existence which is a tribute to Alexander the Great. If there are others please let me know. " Spiral staircase " on the other hand is totally bizarre.It was released at about the same time as " dark side of the moon " and inhabits the same kind of dream world.often though the drums come to the top of the mix, bagpipes appear from nowhere and there's an unsettling section where it sounds as if a noisy restaurant canteen has taken over the music.don't think either of these records were ever released in the uk.more's the pity as they are both unique and full of quirky, unsettling themes which still engage 30years later.
