Free Music Review: Lives Up to Its Title

For some reason my local record merchant has assigned the Supersuckers to the Alternative Country department. That's inaccurate, as are all categorizations. Only one label applies to the Supersuckers: Rock n' Roll. They deliver no-nonsense four-on-the-floor straight-up rock with no apologies, with the attitude of a bunch of nogoodniks who are looking to cause some damage and get outta town. The sound is rooted in solid blues and punk, with hysterical lyrics about little more than partying, getting revenge, and raising hell. Though the band does get unexpectedly serious in the middle of the album, as "Sleepy Vampire" and "A Good Night for My Drinkin'" load up on two different types of self-pity. At the opposite extreme, the band rocks out extra hardcore in the unforgiving crushers "Bruises to Prove It" and the self-explanatory "Someday I Will Kill You." If you're looking for rowdy rock to blast out of your van while knocking over a dumpster then waking up the next morning in a ditch, the Supersuckers are for you. [~doomsdayer520~]
