Free Music Notes for Crime of the CenturyFree Music Review: Crime of the Century Hit: 5 StarsNever knew this album when it originally was released. It mesmerized me......wonderful piano and sax.absolutely loved it.
Free Music Review: A Classic Hit: 5 StarsI bought this album along with Crisis What Crisis? in a fit of nostalgia but have certainly not regretted it. These are the two definitive Supertramp albums and fit my definition of "Classics". A good classic should sound good now, it may have some associations with the times it was released but has to rise above the comment "good example of the genre". These do.
Free Music Review: On A Very Short List of Landmark Albums Hit: 5 StarsCrime of the Century is one of those albums, like Dark Side of the Moon, where you don't even have to mention the artist's name. Now 33 years old, it is still relevant today.
What sets this album apart, as many have commented, is the sound quality. Using early 1970's equipment, the sound quality is incredible. It is hard to imagine anyone doing any better job with all of the equipment available today.
No matter how good the sound quality, though, it wouldn't matter without great music. Virtually every song here is a classic rock radio standard. The alternation between the somewhat jarring vocals of Roger Hodgson, and the more traditional sound of Rick Davies is a perfect balance. There are no weak songs here. I'm not sure if Supertramp is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but if they aren't, I can't imagine why. A very underrated band.
Free Music Review: Superstar status Hit: 5 Stars1974 was a fantastic year for rock. What, with albums being released that year, like 461 Ocean Boulevard by Eric Clapton, Sheer Hear Attack by Queen, Natty Dread by Bob Marley & The Wailers, Autobahn by Kraftwerk and Apostrophe by Frank Zappa.
Without a shadow of a doubt Supertramp provided some of the best music of the 1970's and early 80's, and without a doubt, in 1974 Crime of the Century propelled the band into superstar status, and with excellent reason too.
School is a remarkable commentary on the alienation and frustration many feel during their school years. Other superb tracks here are in your face
Bloody Well Right, the tender Hide In Your Shell exhorts people to give and recieve love and thereby bringhappiness to themselves and others, the colourful Dreamer, the artistic tital track Crime Of The Century, and Rudy deals with the loneliness and pain of a man who has been ignored by those around him and has never found love and companionship.Something that is quite common in todays world.
Free Music Review: A new direction with a new lineup Hit: 5 StarsThis isn't Supertramp's first album although it was the first that most people heard. What might surprise people was that Supertramp started off as a prog band. Their first album had four members and no horns. Their original guitar player Rick Palmer would quit over the band's musical direction and end up as King Crimson's lyricist from Larks Tongues thru Red. Their first album Supertramp wasn't even available in the US until 1976. This is their third album and finds the band headed in a different direction and doing quite well at it. This was a monster hit album and ended up making the band one of the most popular band's of the '70's. To try and pick out any song would be tough as the whole album recieved a lot of airplay back in 1974 and 1975 and 1976...well, you get the idea. I have to admit I don't listen to it that often but when I do, I enjoy it.
