Free Music Notes for Retrospectacle: The Supertramp AnthologyFree Music Review: Not Complete Enough for the Serious Supertramp Fan Hit: 4 Stars
Besides the omissions already mentioned in the above review, I was dissapointed that they did not include the song "I'm Beggin' You". It was the last time that Supertramp had a fantastic hit and they managed to do it even without the great Roger Hodgson in the band. A dance hit nonetheless. It was cool that they featured some of the lesser known early work before Crime of the Century. If you are a casual fan you will enjoy this. But if this music really moves you I would reccomend getting some of their full albums. The best one is Breakfast In America with 9 out of 10 songs being absolute masterpieces. You could say the same for Crime of the Century which is less pop oriented but in many peoples opinion is their best.
Being a modern Supertramp fan is in many ways a frustrating thing. We have had to endure the lame Gap commercials and horrible Goo Goo Dolls version of "Give A Little Bit". And Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson's estrangemenent has been a little painful for the fans. Supertramp is an absolutely monumental band. They should have been in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame long before the Police or U2 yet they do not get the respect or recognition that they deserve.
I just noticed one song on here that may lead me to actually buy this. The live version of "Another Man's Woman". This is a way to have it without having to buy that live album with Mark Hart singing Roger's songs on it which I could never bear to contribute to. It is a great piano performance by Rick.
Another gem on here is their first hit single that is exrtemely rare- "Land-Ho!" sung by Roger.
Free Music Review: Just missing a cut or 2... Hit: 4 Stars
OK, we can argue all day but there is no universal perfect greatest hits of ANY group. Not even Eagles 71-75. That is why we burn our own best of's. Personally when i picked this up i expected the Very best of cd with added tracks. I was almost right. I was horrified to see that Hide In Your Shell was left off. This is my ALL TIME favorite and it has some of their best lyrics, instrumentation and singing on it. This was a HUGE faux paus. Heck, my all time favorite is Queen and there is no perfect best of out there, At least this one included hard to find stuff. More than Queen's record company has ever done. We've been promised a box set for YEARS!
Also, a few others from Breakfast In America were left off. But you can't put the whole album on a best of. The only tune off Breakfast i don't much care for is Lord Is It Mine. But then again many like it.
If you are a die hard, BUY THIS CD
If you want to get into the band, I recommend the Very Best Of CD. (Mainly because of the absence of Hide In Your Shell, trust me, you haven't heard a perfect song until you heard Hide In Your Shell)

Free Music Review: A great Supertramp intro Hit: 4 Stars
I'm with a lot of the other reviewers in that this is a nice set to use for a quick fix of Supertramp from beginning to end, it has some omissions, but the sound quality of the included cuts is top notch.
I can only hope this set helps some folks that only listened to the "Roger days" to give some of the fabulous later albums a chance, I can't help but think the "when Roger left they tanked" review was more a Roger Hodgson fan that a true Supertramp fan, Rick Davies did in my opinion a great job with the band after Rogers departure, yes it was different, but it still had so much of the Supertramp feel left in it, especially in the later albums that got back to the very Jazzy feel
Free Music Review: Enough for the casual fan...but not for me Hit: 4 Stars
A great compilation that collects all of Supertramp's big hits and does a decent job of hitting the highlights of their pre-BREAKFAST era. LADY, RUDY, and DREAMER are all good representations of the band, but like many classic-era bands given the anthology treatment, there are some curious omissions such as HIDE IN YOUR SHELL, POOR BOY, and the excellent FOOL'S OVERTURE. Plus, CRAZY was one of the better tracks from ...FAMOUS LAST WORDS... and is missing here. CRIME..., CRISIS..., and EVEN IN THE QUIETEST MOMENTS still remain essential albums for me even though this compilation makes for some good Sunday morning listening
Free Music Review: SOLID SUPERTRAMP SONG SELECTIONS! Hit: 4 Stars
This collection is great if you're familiar with Supertramp's hits and want to dig a little deeper. All of the Top-100 Pop hits are here, so that's a big plus. The sound is great & the price is right, so you really can't go wrong. I just wish that they would've included "Crazy" since that was a pretty big radio hit & "Had A Dream" from Roger's first solo album as that also received considerable airplay. However, these are only minor quibbles. I'm quite pleased with this Supertramp set.
