Free Music Review: An honest review!

Weather this album is good or bad has nothing to do with Roger Hodgson being in the band or not. The fact is if it is good or not? Supertramp was definitely a band project with TWO great song writer/singers. "Crime Of The Century", "Crisis What Crisis", "Even In The Quietest Moments", and the magnum opus "Breakfast In America" are my favorites. However, there are some good songs on "Famous Last Words" as well. But the biggest surprise to me was how good "Brother Where You Bound" was the first album Davies made without Hodgson. I think he proved right there and than that a GREAT Supertramp album could be made without Hodgson, although it had a different sound. What surprised me is why Davies could never follow up another good one after that. Slow Motion has some pleasant songs, the best ones reminding me of some of the fine moments from Brother Where You Bound. But overall, even as a Jazzy Bluesy album, it gets boring. The songs are lacking. The style is not all bad, and Rick's vocals are still good. But he is lacking good songs, that would go a long way to fix the problem and he certainly could have made a few more good Supertramp albums. But even the best songwriters run out of steam and good material as their careers go by. Even Roger Hodgson the same was true. "Eye In The Storm" was very ambitious, but it took 16 more years for him to follow it up and make another good album "Open The Door" in 2000. So if your keeping an "after Supertramp" score Roger leads Rick 2-1. But so what, it means nothing. It just makes a point that good material is what makes a good album. Good songs by these guys could make good Supertramp albums. There have been rumors of a reunion, but it still hasn't materialized. Hopefully someday it will and it will motivate them both to make a good Supertramp album together with great songs and production. The vintage sound of Supertramp was defiantly a collaboration of the two artists, both voices, and the rest of the musicians as well.
