Free Music Notes for Better DaysFree Music Review: Rerelease of a "Local" CD poor quality recording--Good music Hit: 3 StarsThis CD was originally a "regional" CD back in 1997. The Sessions were acquired and rereleased on this current issue. So, it's not very good quality recording, mix, etc. If you like blues, this is good early work by Susan, but a CD best left to her avid fans. All the later CDs are regular comercial quality or better and Susan improves with age, boton guitar and singing. It's so easy to sample stuff these days free, you can listen and decide if you like it; don't let the "blues snobs" steer you away from Tedeschi; you might miss out on a lot of heart and a lot of fun.
Free Music Review: My cat could probably mix better! I'm serious! Hit: 3 StarsFairly good CD marred by the most horrible recording / mixdown / mastering I've ever encountered on a commercial CD - nay, make that any CD! Through headphones the stereo image pumps around, indicating they did some heavy stereo compression without mixing the channels together for the control signal.
In order to listen to this without getting a terrible headache, I had to mix it down to mono and apply some fake stereo. Pathetic! Who let this thing get stamped out without even the most cursory inspection of the content quality?
[...] But please, please, please play blues guitar on your next CD, OK? Shove those those studio pickers out of the way and do what you do best! And take JH out of your Rolodex!
Free Music Review: she's great , this recording well . . . . Hit: 4 Starsthis is worth owning as it's a record of susan younger . . . .
i'm really looking forward to her new album - supposedly coming out this fall
Free Music Review: Great music, bad production Hit: 4 StarsI love Susan Tedeschi and was thrilled to get a hold of this "pre-fame" CD. It's a great CD too. Full of powerful blues that are more reminiscent of Bonnie Raitt than of Janis Joplin. The production on this CD is really pretty spotty. The first track "It's Up to You" has a very muddy quality to it and "It Hurts Me Too" is painful to listen to on headphones with the mixing from left to right channels constantly moving. Most of the tracks however, are adequately mixed. All in all, this is well worth listening to if you're a Tedeschi fan, but her following CD's are far superior to this one. She just keeps getting better.
Free Music Review: A good record Hit: 4 StarsLike most people, I fell in love with Susan Tedeschi after hearing "Just Won't Burn". It became the soundtrack of my senior year in high school...so I immediately bought "Better Days", and at first listen, I was disappointed. Nothing seemed to click. It wasn't bad, just okay. I set it aside for a couple months and just recently started listening to it again. I don't know why I didn't love it before! Some of the songs almost have a country feel, like the first track. Most are mellow blues, but they still rock. I can't wait for the new album!
