Free Music Notes for Wait for MeFree Music Review: Better Than Just Won't Burn Hit: 4 Stars
I liked Just Won't Burn but this is better (true, more mainstream than blues). Her voice is wonderful and the instrumentals are more polished than before. Keep 'er going Boston Girl!
Free Music Review: Great Stuff Hit: 4 Stars
One of those albums I keep coming back to. Not all songs are great, but most are. Well worth buying.
Free Music Review: Too Bad the Flame Burned Out Hit: 3 Stars
I cannot fault Susan Tedeschi for growing and changing. Her music in this release mirrors her changing attitudes, her changing life. The grit and passion of "Just Won't Burn" is not present here. Susan's voice is still beautiful and powerful, but she has chosen to record middle of the road songs that don't bring out her best vocal qualities. We don't see the range or depth we saw in "Just Won't Burn", and the songs are just plain average. With a couple of exceptions, there is nothing special here. That's too bad. Considering the raw blues edge of "Burn" was what won her wide acclaim, lots of fans who willingly bought this new CD (like me), and won her a grammy, I guess you could chide her for changing a winning formula or congratulate her on moving on to the next phase. I guess we all wanted more of the same, taken to the next level (you'll note most of the reviews for "Burn" were four stars - there was room for improvement), but instead we got something else. I got the feeling these were unused tracks from the last CD. The same thing happened to Jonny Lang. After the success of "Lie to Me" his next release was a disappointing foray into mainstream rock that left us all wondering "what happened"? The spark was gone and we haven't seen it since. I don't think we'll be seeing the old Susan from "Burn" anymore, but hopefully she'll keep singing. Maybe not. Have we seen the last of Susan Tedeschi?
Free Music Review: Just Don't Burn Hit: 3 Stars
I bought just won't burn five years ago. It stayed in the car player until I sold the car five years later. I love that cd and so does everyone I play it for. Earlier this year I bought Weepin Willies LP (in vinyl) knowing that Susan is all over that album. It is also a great album. If you want blues check it out. This cd seems to cross sharply in the direction of studio production and commercialisation. I think every musician should go for the brass ring if they can get it. Its not easy making a living as a musician. For the same reason I don't mind that George Benson has become a commercial icon. But I don't listen to the music that steers to the masses. I think that is what has happened here. For me this cd Just Don't Burn. I hope this cd makes enough dinero to finance some other less mainstream material. UPDATE: I have listened to this now for a few weeks. It is listenable and pleasant at times. However, I still think the energy of Just Won't Burn is lacking. I doubt i will be listening to this five years from now.
Free Music Review: A passion-ectomy? Hit: 3 Stars
If you were as excited as I was about the passion that Susan shared on the "Let it Burn" album, then this album may be a bit disappointing. "Wait for Me" is mixed better that her prior recordings, but comes across as a garden variety bar blues, devoid of the gut-wrenching vocals she displayed on her earlier works, and what she has demonstrated live.I have seen Susan live twice, and was anticipating this album for some time (as the last show she covered some of the tracks). I was a little disappointed in the recorded tracks of her new material, as they did not reflect her real presence. I realize that Susan is going through some big life changes that may have influenced this album. I have seen unbelievable live performances which showcase her incredible talents. I hope that she can capture some of the passion she exudes in her live performances and stamp in on a disk some time, but until then, its probably not a bad idea, as the album says, to wait.
