I am a solid fan of Sushila Ramen. Her voice is amazing, her lyrics are very clever and the tunes are superb and different. I really enjoyed this CD and would recommend it as one of my favorites.

Music For Crocodiles is Susheela Raman's 3rd album. Her first, Salt Rain, was sensationally nominated for the finals of the Mercury Music Prize and has gone on to become a massive hit in France. The album features 13 tracks including the bonus track 'What Silence Said' (Unquiet mix). EMI. 2005.Singer Susheela Raman has a dual life as an Indian person living in England who grew up in Australia. And while she studied the music of her ancestry, she's always found a way to bring her adopted culture together with that of her heritage. She does that again on Music For Crocodiles, her third album. While this album has more English language songs than any of her previous efforts, she goes further the other direction as well, working for the first time with several different Indian guest musicians. It's understood that Raman has a world-class voice endowed with a sexy rasp to soften the edges, but the epic sound behind her is equally potent as it seamlessly integrates folk styles and electronics. The same goes for the songwriting -- percolating Indian tabla and catchy Western melodies gracefully compliment each other on such songs as "Leela" and "What Silence Said." As ethnicity is interfaced in the digital age, here's an accomplished effort that sounds Eastern and Western as well as new, old, and timeless. -- Tad Hendrickson
