Free Music Notes for Sushi 4004Free Music Review: YUKARI FRESH & TAKAKO MINEKAWA Hit: 4 Starsit is not easy to find recordings by the wonderful YUKARI FRESH. once you hear her (music by MINIFLEX) you'll be hooked. also, takako minekawa is number 1, this is her stand out track (fantastic cat)from her MARCH records release produced by buffalo daughter! if you are curious about the REAL JPOP, this is it! these are REAL musicians, not figureheads and hired vocalists. but mini moni and puffy are cool too :)
Free Music Review: Excellent Hit: 5 StarsThis CD its so Cool!!! Its Great, only if you like Jappanese Lounge Music, if your friends are stupid dont play it to them, maybe they will call you sissy, any way its Great!!
Free Music Review: A pale follow up to Sushi 3003 Hit: 2 StarsWhereas the previous compilation in this series, Sushi 3003, explored unusual and melodic landscapes and was entirely wonderful, Sushi 4004 has it's feet mostly stuck on the dance floor and usually in a pretty dull way. Some of the tracks are plain boring (Midnight Bowlers - "Bowlers In Space" immediately springs to mind). Still it's not a total loss, The Fantastic Plastic Machine are there with a groovy number "S'il Vous Plait", Kahimi Karie gets a look in with "Alcohol" (a lenghty but stunning track from her incredible CD "L'Arme De Crocodile") and there's a High Llamas remix of Cornelius' "The Microdisneycal World Tour". Oh! Penelope strike gold with "Lait Au Miel" which sounds even more fab when placed against Takako Minekawa's bland "Fantastic Cat" (the comparisons to Kahimi Karie are undeserved). The Pizzicato Five donate a pretty uninteresting collage of a bunch of their songs entitled "Lesson 3003 (Part 1)". Much as I hate to dis a great label like Bungalow, all in all, this is not a patch on Sushi 3003. Sushi 5005 anyone?
Free Music Review: Utterly charming Hit: 4 StarsThere's nothing to dislike about this CD. It won't change your life, but it will entertain and amuse you for an hour. J-Pop is the music of magpie minds (with a hefty nod towards the concept of 'swinging'), so it's sole function is entertainment rather than enlightenment. One quibble: the Cornelius track is a remix by Sean O' Hagan and says more about High Llamas than Cornelius. Two other points: 1) Cornelius must be seen live to be fully believed. 2) The Fantastic Plastic Machine track is so good I use it as the theme on the soccer radio show I do in the UK. Yes, that good.
Free Music Review: sharp, modern stuff -- and MUCH BETTER than sushi 3003 Hit: 4 Starsif you're getting into J-pop and are pondering purchase of sushi 3003 and 4004: sushi 4004 is better. sharper, cooler mixes... creative, retro feel... 3003 is pretty rough, but 4004 -- especially with a number of cool samba-beat tracks -- is DEFINITELY worth owning.
