Free Music Notes for Classic Nursery RhymesFree Music Review: Excellent, Unique & Refreshing!! Hit: 5 StarsThank you for creating something unique and wonderful Susie Tallman. First of all, this is not a lullaby CD, it is an incredible collection of nursery rhymes. Nursery Rhymes are supposed to be clever and fun, a sign of the times to be completely accurate, and these are just that! All kinds of instruments and rhythms which my 3 kids love! They just start dancing as soon as this comes on, AND we have a lot of different children's music CDs. Move over Raffi, this is modern and doesn't just try to be cool, IS cool. I am happy to expose my children to such great music. I recommend this 200%!!! Jennifer, Mother and picky music buyer.
Free Music Review: Fails at Original Interpretations of Rhymes. There's Better Hit: 3 StarsI like Susie Tallman's other album "Lullaby Themes for Sleepy Dreams" because it is a very enjoyable and beautiful classic lullaby album. I recommend that CD. However, I have mixed feelings about "Classic Nursery Rhymes."For starters, the name is misleading. The songs are not performed in a traditional or "classic" format. Instead, Tallman and friends try very hard to be creative with the songs. One song is rap. Several others songs are obvious attempts to be cool. The CD has layers of sound effects. There's a guy with an English accent and children with English accents who are suppose to be hip and interesting. A few of the songs are really good, but many of them are annoying, and a few are plain strange. This is not a CD for nap time or a long car ride. I put this CD to a good test: my children spent time with it and they just did not care for it. By the way, they own a large collection of children's music. I think this CD is trying to be hip sounding so some adults may like it, but I just don't like it either. Traditional lullabies sound wierd with that type of musical approach. Here are my recommendations: First, if you are purchasing one of your first three lullaby CD's, buy a different lullaby CD. Find one with more traditional performances. Second, if you own less than a dozen children's music CD, buy something else, such as by Raffi. Finally, if you already own a huge collection of children's music, like our family does, then consider buying this CD for variety. The quality is better than many overly-commercial or cheap CD's. And do consider "Lullaby Themes for Sleepy Dreams" by Susie Tallman.
Free Music Review: Clever, Fun and GREAT LISTENING Hit: 5 StarsI've started giving Susie Tallman CD's to all my friends with babies and preschoolers. They are SUPERB!!! This one is such fun and we love all the different ways she sings these classics. Itsy Bitsy Spider by itself gets a variety of different styles (jazzy, like a marching band). It really is a great CD for both kids and adults to listen to.
Free Music Review: Excellent, Inventive, and Easy on the Parents Hit: 5 StarsSusie Tallman's Nursery Rhymes CD is one of our favorites. The collection is full of great, catchy songs that our toddler LOVES (much bouncing in high chair, stomping on the floor, and clapping). One of our favorite aspects is the variations on the same songs--a child's voice requests, "sing it jazzy/faster/etc..." and the same song is reinterpreted. Our son loves these changes, and we think it's a great way to introduce the idea of how changes in style, tone, tempo, etc. affect music. But perhaps the most important element of the CD is that we like listening to it, too! Susie Tallman has a great voice and is an accomplished and innovative musician. Classic Nursery Rhymes fits right into our regular rotation of Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens, Ten Thousand Maniacs, Joan Osbourne, Neil Young, Fat Boy Slim, They Might Be Giants, REM, etc. etc. We put on Classic Nursery Rhymes when our friends are over--even the kind without kids. What a nice break from Rafi!!
Free Music Review: So refreshing! Hit: 5 StarsWe love all the Rock Me Baby albums! Our daughter has been listening to them since birth. This newest album follows Ms. Tallman's tradition of beautiful vocals, rich melodies and creative arrangements. It's so refreshing to hear the classics done with such energy and creativity!
