Free Music Review: AMAZING

When I first heard the idea of a "demon barber" I was a little turned off by this play.... but nevertheless I bought the CD and to find that I LOVE THIS MUSIC!!!!
First off Patti Lupone is AMAZING!!! I love angela lansbury, but I have both recordings of Sweeney and I very much like Ms. Lupone as Mrs. Lovett (she was robbed of the tony for best actress in a musical for this role!!)
Len Cariou is the original sweeney, but Michael Cerveris gives a much more chilling performance!!!! and Benjamin Murguson makes a very nice Anthony as well ("johanna" is my favourite song, I'd love to get a CD with the kenedy center performance with HUGH PANARO and Brian Stokes Mitchell!!!!!)
Its too bad this play is closing in September, at least its going on tour, and they're apparently making a movie version with johnny depp!?!?!?! that should be interesting....
if you're trying to decide which recording to buy first, get this one now and if you love it then get the original....

I have heard that Sweeney Todd was coming back to Broadway! I was so excited when I heard it was coming back. I was in new york when I saw the show. I was wondering if they were going to make a soundtrack with it. And they did. With this remastered verison of Sondheims' masterpiece classic It's wonderful. Sweeney Todd stars were Michael Cerveris and Patti LuPone. I fell in Love with his voice instantly when I heard him sing "My Friends." I am a huge fan of Sondheim and Webber. I want to go see it again and again. PASSION was one of Cervers and LuPone's first show they did together. I love him and her. This is my new favorite play. In Sweeney Todd (New one) there are ten actors on stage. They are also the orchestra. When I heard that there are ten people I was amazed to see them play the instruments. When one of my favorite songs was on (Not While I'm Around) I was just staring at him playing the guitar. Was amazed that he could sing. and play the guitar. He Was amazing.

Free Music Review: I don't think Sweeney can be done any other way

I saw this show not knowing much about Sweeney at all. I only knew a few of the songs. I was blown away when I saw it during previews. I saw it two more times after that night. The show is an amazing, exciting, and scary experience. Patti loses that crazy but loveable Mrs. Lovett that Angela Lansbury gave us and becomes a scary, mean, and manipulative Mrs. Lovett. Michael Cerveris gives a spine chilling portrayal of Sweeney Todd. The CD captures the experiecnce that one gets while watching it in the theater. the Orchestrations are wonderful and the cast is superb.
The only down fall to this CD is the lose of the track "City on Fire" which was one of the most amazing songs to watch performed on stage.
This Sweeney is worth the buy and is worth the 100 dollars to see on stage. This is a stage event that should not be missed and will go down in history and one of the best revivals to ever hit the Broadway Stage.
Free Music Review: Stripped to Bone (and very TASTY)

If the bare bones 1997 revival of Chicago revealed the brillant essentials of that show, then the stunning 2005 revival of Sweeney Todd does the same for Sondheim's masterpiece. The bare bones orchestra (the cast) gives the full sound of the score with out the orchestrations which eventually became annoying with repeated listenings to the original cast album. Patti Lupone endows Mrs. Lovett with a full measure of creepiness missing from Angela Lansbury's original or the archness in her concert version with Bryn Terfel. Michael Cerveris makes Sweeney's emptiness and rage palpable on the CD. His live performance must be completely terrifying. The score frankly has never sounded better. Mark Jacoby makes the judge even more menacing because he is not nearly as old as the original. Pretty Women is even lusher here because of the stripped down nature of the orchestra. I much prefer this to the original cast, as much as i love Angela Lansberry. You simply cannot go wrong with Patti LuPone, Michael Cerveris, and Manoel Felciano. Patti LuPone is a legend, but oh my gracious her Mrs. Lovett is entirely frightening and more approachable and sneaky than Lansberry. Manoel Felciano, who is in my opinion THE best actor currently on broadway is incredible. Especially in Not While I'm Around. Michael Cerveris is flawless, he actually makes one believe that he really is going around with a razor killing people, as gruesomely delicious as that sounds. Terribly thrilling, chilling, and frightening, i HIGHlY reccomend this as an aspiring actress myself. (GO SEE IT!)
P.S.
Though The Pajama Game won best revival, i highly disagree. Sweeney Todd Should have won!
