This revival cast recording is magnificent. Patti LuPone and Michael Cerveris are fantastic, and the orchestrations are top-notch. If you've only heard selections from the show, now's your chance to hear a comprehensive recording. The story, from beginning to end is amazing. Sondheim's lyrics are tricky, complex and mesmerizing. Don't miss out on this one. Standout tracks include the extremely difficult and complex, "kiss me," to the fantastic melodies in the songs, "Pretty Women," "Not While I'm Around," and "By the Sea."Free Music Review: a very sexy sweeney!

this new production is the best stage show ive ever seen! ive seen the english tour twice and its absolutely brilliant, harriet thorpe is an amazing mrs lovett and jason donovan makes a very sexy sweeney! i love the use of the coffin on stage. this version demands a lot more from its performers coz they all play their own instuments which is extremely difficult to do especially without music. this recording is fantastic but the one and only grumble i have with the broadway cast is that the accents arent always spot on.Free Music Review: Best Sweeney by far

I saw this production in London two years ago in a converted TV studio near Trafalgar Square and it was stunningly effective theatre. I went back and told my colleagues about it and they all poo-pooed the idea of a stripped-down Sweeney. Well, I stand by my original feeling after seeing it in NYC. Patti Lupone only adds to the mix. It's a splendid cast album. I hope it makes it to Great Performances like Light in The Piazza, the OTHER great production on Broadway this season.Free Music Review: Finally, a musical that's on par with Phantom of the Opera!

This revival is fantastic! I'm serious: buy this CD and listen to the score until you start to memorize it. I almost didn't buy it because of the negative reviews. You know how amazing Phantom of the Opera is, well this is just as amazing. Patti Lupone is outstanding, though some may say that she sounds bad, I disagree. It's just the way her voice is. This is the first musical that I've become obsessed with that's actually AS GOOD AS PHANTOM!!!!Free Music Review: Michael Cerveris is Sweeney Todd.

Michael Cerveris is Sweeney Todd. You can hear this one better than the original. I've seen this one before. If you think that Michael Cerveris is bad in this he is not. Go see the show for yourself and he is great on stage. I went to the cd signing thing in New York and it was so much fun to meet the cast and be on stage with them. I want to go see it again. This is a play you will never forget.
