Free Music Notes for Sweeney Todd (2007 Film Soundtrack) (Deluxe Edition)Free Music Review: They said it couldn't be done. They were WRONG! Hit: 5 Stars
"Can't be filmed" I thought. WRONG! Filmed beautifully under the direction of Tim Burton, this stage classic translates to a fantastic visual extravaganza that brings the action somewhat closer than can be done on the stage. All of the actors are first rate and if none of them are Breadway-ready, it's immaterial! Film is a unique medium and these performances make a memorable film event of Sondheim's classic. Depp and Carter do a fine job in their demanding roles and the score is well served by the brilliant orchestrations of Jonathan Tunick. If only "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd" had not been excised, but then again, nothing's perfect. This comes darn close though. For fans of musicals and of those who thought they would never endure a musical. Fantastic in every respect.
Free Music Review: Listen to it with an unbiased ear! Hit: 5 Stars
Of course, "purists" have been critical of Depp and company putting their own vocal spin of Sondheim's lyrics but that aside, the actors do justice to the composer's brilliant lyrics. In fact, the soundtrack, when played without having viewed the film - as I have - is a delight. Depp, Bonham-Carter, Rickman, and Cohen step up to the plate and bring their unique interpretations to the songs from the popular Broadway musical.
As one who saw television broadcast featuring the divine Angela Lansbury many years ago, I can recommend the soundtrack album from the gory Burton film. To be honest, the music, sans the overdone bloody images of the movie, is marvelous and stands alone as a wonderful listening experience.
High marks for the album!!!
Free Music Review: A real gem Hit: 5 Stars
First, this is a musical movie. I hope no one will give a crappy review because THEY don't like musicals.
The fact this is a work by Sondheim, starts with a good note. Needless to say, Johnny Depp can sing, and well.
Scenes like "Pretty Women"(personally, most beautiful piece! What a great harmony!), "Epiphany", "A little priest" are just so well done. Not only this movie has great cast such as Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, but new gems! Sorry I don't have their names on top of my head, but Johanna, Tobias have well done their parts.
I would also recommend to see the original musical, if you don't like celebrity preferance.
Free Music Review: The Perfect Cast Hit: 5 Stars
I must admit I was wary when I found out that Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter were singing. I already knew that Alan Rickman could sing, though I hadn't heard him in a while and was curious. The three of their voices mixed perfectly with eachother. They were in perfect compliment. Nobody overshadowed anybody else, which I find happens in most musicals.
The orchestral score was brilliant, as always. And, to my joy, the songs were just as well performed.
I liked the fact that the songs were just an extension of the words, so it flowed gently, instead of having a hard contrast between the words and the music.
Perfect!
Free Music Review: This is an excellent soundtrack Hit: 5 Stars
This is an great soundtrack from a hit musical. Sondheim's opening title sets a eeire ominous tone to the whole soundtrack I was really impressed by how well Johnny Depp can sing. He serenades his razors in the track "My Friends". Another standout track by Depp is "No Place Like London". I think he shows nice vocal range on this track. He also sings well with Alan Rickman on the track "Pretty Women". Helena Bohman Carter is the other star here. Her beautiful voice shines on the tracks "The Worst Pies in London" and "By The Sea". Jayne Wisener hits the high notes beautifully on "Green Finch and Linnet Bird". I really enjoyed listening to this soundtrack.
