I went in this not quite knowing what to expect and was totaly blown away! I LOVE this film, LOVE the soundtrack and can't wait for the DVD. I do, however, get SO tired of people who think they know better than the actual creators of master pieces such as this. I personally feel Depp and all the actors in the film did a great job, and I agree with another reviewer...it is refreshing to hear people who sound "REAL" and yes I have listened to Both version..cast and film and STILL perefer the film version. Why do people constantly think a broadway play and film can or will translate the same? I was a fan of "Sweeney Todd" before this film came to movie theatres. My original expectations of Depp's singing were low, but after viewing the first trailer it was clear that I was very mistaken. This soundtrack embodies the magic that Burton, Depp, and the rest of the cast brought to this fantastic film. Each member of the cast brings their own unique singing style to Sondheim's classic theatrical characters and makes them relevant to a movie-going crowd. This soundtrack has easily been one of the most enjoyable items I've ever purchased on Amazon. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a beautiful story set to beautiful music.Free Music Review: Sensational, if abbreviated, rendition

The care that the Sondheim score receives here is truly remarkable. It's very rare for Hollywood to truncate such a huge (or any) score so successfully. Yes, much is missing. But what is left is the choicest of morsels. The cast is uniformly excellent, even if they're not professional singers. And the orchestrations are superb.
I had many doubts about this, but every single one was for nothing.
My only complaint is that much of the underscoring and the end-credits medley are left off this cd. It's all quite beautiful and deserves to be heard here.

I am ordering this soundtrack because I loved the music in the movie. I am an avid theater lover, but I have never seen Sweeny Todd. As far as Johnny Depp's performance goes, I am a bit biased since he is my all time favorite actor, but I think he did an amazing job with the music. Helena Bonham Carter's performance didn't bother me in the least. I was in a theater full of people at the midnight showing the first day and everyone seemed to enjoy her performance. I didn't find anyone's voice to be lacking. As far as the score, I think it is pure genius. I really enjoyed it.Free Music Review: Never seen the movie, never seen the play, still love it!

I may be the only reviewing person who never made it to the movie and who is not familiar with the play. My friend, a huge fan of the play and of Stephen Sondheim, gave me this CD as a gift and it is wonderful. I can take it as it is, not having anything to compare with. The songs enable the listener to gleen the story, and I love the vocals and music, although I do agree that Helena Bonham Carter is the weakest, overall I think she does a fair job. Even my 3 younger kids love the drama and story of this CD, skipping over the swear words of course. Recommended!!
