Free Music Notes for Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street Deluxe - Complete EditionFree Music Review: A welcome change! Hit: 5 StarsI love this soundtrack. The vocals are definately a new twist to a brilliantly directed movie. A must see and hear! I only wish I could see Depp and Carter on Broadway instead!
Free Music Review: Pretty good soundtrack Hit: 4 StarsI just had to write a review for this since I wanted to make some things clear for those that seem to have missed the point: this is a soundtrack to a movie NOT a stage production.
I find that comparing movie actors and stage professionals is, in short, just dumb. Of COURSE Depp and Carter and the rest don't compare to actual singers but that's because they aren't singers. They are actors. Like in the Moulin Rouge and Chicago movie adaptations.
This soundtrack is a nice addition to be enjoyed by fans of the movie and/or the actors themselves. If, however, you are looking for spectacular performances then you probably won't like it.
But, then again, why are you even checking out a MOVIE soundtrack when you know movie actors and not professional singers are performing in it?!?
Yes, I suggest to anyone interested in the Sweeney Todd musical to check the original cast recording, etc but, if you aren't into musicals and just enjoyed the movie then go ahead and get this. I have the original cast recording and this and enjoy both IMMENSELY!
Free Music Review: Best Musical!!! Hit: 5 StarsThis Movie is another work of art of Tim Burton!!!!!
And the music is fantastic!
A must have for every Musical Fans!!!
Free Music Review: Only So-So; Shows The Superior Skills of Stage Actors & Actresses Hit: 2 StarsCaveat: I still think nothing compares to the original Broadway performance of Sweeney Todd. While I applaud Tim Burton for making Steven Sondheim's masterpiece accessible to a new generation, the musical and theatrical performances here seem flat and limited in comparison. Helena Carter lacks the cheery, bubbly desperation of Angela Landsbury's Mrs. Lovett; Johnny Depp seems flat and even smarmy -- without the seething powerful rage of George Hearn or Len Cariou (on the original cast album). This is a slick Hollywood production and is OK in its own right, BUT other productions (even Patti Lupone / George Hearn's concert performance) are far better. This film/soundtrack demonstrates the superiority of true stage professionals -- sadly, the cast here clearly cannot deliver the full power, humor, and twisted beauty of this story of inhumanity and descent into madness. This Hollywood production lacks a lot in comparison; if you like the story -- check out the DVD/soundtracks of earlier productions. You're in for a treat.
Free Music Review: Sweeney Todd - WOW!!!! Hit: 5 StarsThis CD with Johnny Depp arrived quickly, and was of the highest quality!
The movie version was fantastically beautiful in every way, exceeding the original cast and revival versions which I had previously enjoyed on stage. The direction, editing, and sound of the movie is superb and the casting, acting and voice qualities are outstanding. It is Stephen Sonheim's music and lyrics at its finest! In my opinion it was definitely the best movie of 2007; I treasure the CD!
