Free Music Notes for Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street (1979 Original Broadway Cast)Free Music Review: Dark & Delightful Sweeney Todd Hit: 5 Stars
If you know nothing about Sweeney Todd, you'll be pleased that this musical is like an opera - most of what happens on stage is sung. You'll be able to follow most of the story's twists and turns just from the music. The original cast can't be beat. Angela Lansbury is a hoot. This story is a tragedy, but there is so much humor. The more gruesome the lyrics, the more rollicking the the music. This 2-disk version has some super bonus tracks with "Joanna" receiving especially beautiful treatment. There was a surprise, unlisted bonus at the very end from... I believe.. Julie Andrews. Very cute. Dig in!
Free Music Review: Sweeny Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street Hit: 5 Stars
I saw the movie with Johnny Depp. It was great and wanted to buy the sound track. Mentioned wanting to buy it to the theatre director where I go to see college plays. They do a great job there and the director told me that the Broadway version is better, so I took his word for it and bought this one and he was right! The musical score from the movie is good too. It's all a matter of personal taste. The music is very pretty and the singers are very good. If a person didn't know what this was about, and just heard the music and liked musicals or light opera, they would love the songs. Very lovely.
Free Music Review: The best musical... Hit: 5 Stars
I saw the performance in 79 on Broadway w/ Cariou and Lansbury. What can be said other than it was and is the best musical of American Theater. NOW we have BOTH the original, AND a movie that I thought could never be made. Sweeney Todd LIVES!!!
Thank you S Sondheim for the gift of this music, of this story, and for almost 30 years of enjoyment. How can anyone "gift" such a present as 30 years of Joy at great music.
There is simply nothing like Sweeney Todd.
Free Music Review: Wrong Music Sampler Hit: 5 Stars
Has anyone noticed the music sampler on this page is not for the Lansbury/Cariou production, but rather, the recent Lupone/Ceveris production. Both are lovely, however, those unfamiliar with the two productions may be mislead because they are quite different in style and scale. Can an Amazon Administrator please correct this error? Thanks

Have listened to and loved The original stage version of Sweeney Todd with Len Cariou and Angie Lansbury for the last 25 years. This listener has yet to tire of listening to it. This is music that will be loved and listened to 100 years from now.
