Free Music Review: Fun and OH so Sweet!

This album is packed with great songs that are catchy and fun by a greatly misunderstood and underappreciated band. Most recognized is probably "Ballroom Blitz" (some will remember that song from Wayne's World and/or as a true staple on many Classic Rock radio stations) but the best is probably "Fox on the Run" or the cheesy, yet, cool "Teenage Rampage" and "Wig-Wam Bam". Before Poisen or Warrant, before Ratt or Twisted Sister, before Whitesnake or Motley Cru, there was The Sweet!The Sweet had one major thing going for them--they knew how to write catchy rock-n-roll tunes. Their songs were tight, and had more hooks than a professional fisherman's tacklebox. (Sorry about that last sentence. I couldn't help myself).
All the great songs are here: "Little Willy", "Barroom Blitz",
"Action", "Fox on the Run", as well as others. If you enjoy those bands I mentioned above, you'll get a kick out of this CD. If you don't enjoy those bands, then you probably aren't reading this review, anyway.

Strictly speaking this title 'The Best Of', is only half right. The hits from 'Little Willy" onwards are almost here. For some reason 'Hell Raiser' is omitted, which is criminal. The other glaring omission for me is the minor hit 'Turn It Down', one of Chinn & Chapman's greatest, and their attempt to write like The Sweet. Anyway if you can't find a more complete hits collection, and there are plenty to choose from. This will do.Free Music Review: A good overview.

This CD does a good job of looking at these glam rockers and the career they built in the 70's. Songs like "Litle Willy" "Fox On The Run" "Ballroom Blitz" and "Love Is Like Oxygen" bring about guilty pleasure memories. But, there are some good songs missing from "Desolation Boulevard" such as "Solid Gold Brass" and "Into The Night." Still, it is a good CD and not a bad place to start a collection on this band.
